    Look over at the blog for reviews on monitor speakers. The M-Audio AV40s are pretty low in price while still offering a reasonable sound quality.

    For more serious speakers the KRK Rokits are a good choice. Might consider getting a pair of 6’s (5’s are a wee bit light on the bass side) used. Just be sure to listen to them carefully before buying.
