MemberMy first controller was the ion discover. My next one was the Numark Mixtrak. The Mixtrack is a great controller to start off with

Memberthe Mixtrack is a solid choice, I would have bought it if it was available in my area when I was shopping – my first controller was the dascratch unit from stanton – found it for a bargain at $50. from there I’ve added the whole system to it, but just that one unit was good enough for basic mixing and learning.

MemberHey Crysix
Definatly go with the Mixtrack Pro, as it’s a all-in-one kind of solution, saves fussing around buying a soundcard.
I own the Mixtrack Pro, and I cant praise it enough. It has fantastic jogs, plenty of controls (so you can to all the important stuff) and is reasonably well built. I take it to gigs every second week and it works great!
I also have a friend who owns the Mixtrack (no sound card) and has grown frustrated with it as he has no cue, and has now decided to spend $4000 on CDJ900s + DJM700….. after DJing for about 4 months. Can’t say thats a cheap choice, but that’s his money….

Cray, when he could get a sound card for his Mixtrack for next to nothing…

Tell me about it…. I think he was inspired to get such a set-up after getting to know a local (pro) DJ who is a CDJ nut. And the fact that he couldnt get his Numark DJ I/O soundcard to work properly. Ahh well, it’s his cash.

MemberI’d recommend anything Hercules. My first controller was a Hercules MP3 E2 (midget with no sound card). It’s a nice toy but it’s really not good for anything professional, as the controls are all too small. That sounds really negative, but it really is good. I’ve heard great things about other Hercules products too.
I also used the Numark iDJ3 (basically a Mixtrack with a mostly useless iPod dock in the middle) at a youth centre. This was the controller that convinced me to buy a larger controller (at which point I bought the S4, which is definitely NOT a good first controller). I think the Mixtrack Pro is a little bit too high priced for a first controller, but if you have money to throw away, why not? It’ll take you far.
I’d definitely recommend buying something with decently sized controls and an internal soundcard with headphone output. Before you buy, READ EVERY REVIEW YOU CAN. If your DJ store has helpful staff (like StoreDJ.com.au (plugging them ’cause I love them)) then ask them about it all, talk to them. They’ll know plenty.

MemberI have a Mixtrack Pro and agree it is an excellent controller to begin with. I would suggest considering the Mixtrack and a sound card also. I have had situations where i just wanted to mess around with the laptop and not get the controller out and wish I had a sound card. I am still considering getting an Audio2 DJ for those occasions, but I can’t say anything bad about the convenience of the controller being an all-in-one piece of hardware. So convenient and sounds great.

MemberStill using a spin, but hankering to upgrade. Was set on the Numark NS6, but thinking it’s a bit to large to move around often, so looking at the VCI-300 or the Twitch.

Member+1 on the Mixtrack (Pro).. I own it and it is awesome IMHO.

Membergot a mixtrack myself. I like it so far. I didn’t want the pro because of the built in sound card. Might as well have a card when I want to upgrade to something else. Plus I didn’t want EQ kills instead of hot cues. I’m quite happy with it so far. Although I have some issues with the pitch control sensitivity (or lack thereof)

MemberThe Mixtrack Pro is definitely a good choice. I’ve had it since it came out and it hasn’t let me down yet. Solid build and the buttons and jogs are very responsive. For the price, I don’t think it can be beat.
