1 – no amount of track playlist arranging and practising in your home will ever get you experience like a real paid gig, with all the stress involved!
Can’t agree more, that’s were the men get seperated from the boys 😀
2 – no matter how much you think you are prepared, always have a plan A, plan B, plan Z! we are actually looking at putting our own custom desk together, with two i7 desktop machines and two monitors, alongside the laptops!, in my opinion, you are relying on technology all night to work, so sooner or later, something is bound to go wrong
I can almost assure you that if you will be doing (a lot) more mobile gigs, you will quickly start thinking about streamlining your gear. While I am all for backup, be careful not to overdo it and end up with needing more time to set up and break down than time playing.
4 – however bad you think the evening is going, as long as you smile, and look like everythings okay, most people will not even notice.. I never beat matched any tracks that night, I simply dropped in, or faded some in.. actually on the “Hed Kandi” section of the set, I did beat-match 5 tracks ( and shock horror, used the sync button too! ) is that wrong? I really don’t care, the people dancing really enjoyed themselves..
Back in the early days of vinyl there was no beatmatching and there were still some rocking parties. LOL
Thanks for the story. We love to hear experiences like this.
