ParticipantSennheiser HD-25-1 II – you will struggle to find better at this price range

ParticipantThe Sennheiser HD-25ยดs are On-Ear design – exactly what Cheeku does NOT want.
I have heard many positive opinions on the Audio Technica ATH M50, so maybe these will be worth a look, too.
Also I personally use the V-Moda Crossfade LP (Try them out before buying, some people think that they dont isolate well enough because of the semi-open design) which are, atleast in my opinion, very comfy and also pretty “cheap” nowadays – or the foldable pendant, the M-100 that also come in at a much higher price. But for the further help a budget would be good to know.

ParticipantYes, thank you DJ Plasma, I have looked into the ATH M50 but I don’t think it has a detachable cable.
And yes, I need a closed-back design because I’ll be DJing as well as producing with those.
As for my budget, the V-Moda Crossfade LP lies just outside my savings, so you get the idea.Hope that helps. ๐

ModeratorThe new Sennheiser HD8 DJ might tick enough of your boxes and is an awesome pair of cans. And it actually comes with both a straight and a curly-whirly cable.

ParticipantI’ve got Denon DJ HP-1000, huge cups. Rather on the expensive side, and not the most durable headset, but at least the isolation is good.
Though I have to admit I picked them because I’m a Denon fan and the look cool…

ModeratorQuite frankly Cheeku, if you really want the things you say you want (especially the detachable cable), combined with the rather limited budget of 100 USD, I am afraid you are not gonna be very succesful.
There are some cheap alternatives (the Sennheiser HD210 which is almost for free comes to mind) that combine over-ear comfort with great sound quality (especially considering the price). At 25-30 USD you can buy two (which is good because they CAN break LOL, so a spare makes sense).
Around the 100 USD mark you are kinda in-between the expensive low-/midrange headphones and the cheap high-end headphones. Detachable cables for example, when done correctly, is an expensive feature and thus usually found on the more expensive headphones.
So, either go for cheap but good throwaways (and what good will a detachable cable do on throwaways) or save up and get something that will be to your liking.
I bought the HD-25 IIs (at the time slightly over 200 euro) and was shocked I’d ever spend that kind of money on headphones. But they have been used intensively (DJ, live sound, studio) for the last 4-5 years and I am still on my first set of cushions. EVERYTHING on the headphones is replaceable, which means they’ll probably last about 25 years.
Suddenly these are not so expensive anymore because I get the great pleasure from day one (rather than being unhappy I didn’t get the quality I wanted) and I never have to buy another pair.
It’s your wallet of course. But imho it’s important to look closely at your wishlist compared to your budget and determine if they are realistic. High wishlist with low budget usually isn’t realistic.

ParticipantI suppose you are right, DJ Vintage, its just that in India things are way too expensive for me to afford. being disappointed by many of my previous purchases, I thought that I’ll get the headphones out of the way, so just to test the waters I thought I’ll get something in that price range but it seems that I won’t get my hands on anything of that sort yet. But even a 100 USD is pushing the limits.
So, anyways, if I get the detachable cable out of the way, then I would still prefer a single-sided cable. I was leaning towards the Numark Red Wave or the Sennheiser range.

ModeratorAsk Deathy, he bought a pair of 201s (advice from Terry). I am sure he is willing to tell you his experience with them.

ParticipantYeah, the Sennheiser 201s are an absolutely great pair of headphones for such a low price, I was stunned. I paid 25 euro for my pair. I’ve bought a lot of 25 dollar headphones over the years, but this is the only pair where I felt they actually sounded good.
They have a slight swivel to them, so you can have one ear on and one off – not as nicely as the expensive fancy headphones, but it still does what I need with that regard.
The cable itself is nice and long. It is a straight cable and not a spiral cable, which does mean they tend to get a little kinky, but that’s really the only thing I can thing of to criticize them on – and a spiral cable would add considerably to the cost.

ParticipantOh, and they pretty comfortably fit over my ears and have decent sound isolation.

ParticipantOK, Is there any difference between the 210s and the 180s? They both look exactly the same.
September 26, 2014 at 3:49 pm #2064041siddharth.jha.email@gmail.com
ParticipantOh, and do tell me, is it worth saving up for the Sennheiser 215s? Or should I buy the 210s now and upgrade later. The key point is that I’ll be using my headphones for producing as well, and they HAVE to last at least 2-3 years, which is why I’m so scared to actually buy anything yet. To be honest, when posting my budget, I was pretty ashamed and after hitting ENTER, It dawned on me that people will just laugh at your dumb venture. I’m glad no one did. ๐
