ParticipantSennheiser HD 25 basic edition appear to be on there way out as they were being heavily discounted at BPM.
Headphones are a personal preference item. Best to go try some out at the nearest available DJ store see what fits and works for you.
Found my new happiness with the new Pioneer HDJ-C70’s on ear monitors. Bass nice, highs good and isolation was awesome. I was trying them at the BPM show and it cut almost everything out. Just waiting for them to be released to get my hands on them.

ParticipantI followed Terry’s advice on the Sennheiser 201s, and have been very pleased with them. Astounding sound for such a low cost pair of headphones.

ParticipantTrue I have a pair of those on my desk I use to plug in for listening to music. They are very clear, inexpensive and comfortable to wear for long periods. However I tried using them for Djing and they are just not flexible enough for me as they have to come on and off a lot and one ear at a time. They just do not go on and off the ears easily.
That is a personal opinion of course.

KeymasterI agree Phil, the 201s have some downsides, but if you are looking at the below 60 bucks price point, there is not much else with that sound quality and volume. Also if they break (and they will) then you did not spend 100 bucks on a broken headphone.
I always have some of the 201s around simply for backup of my backup (I am a bit paranoid) and I have broken roughly 15 pairs over the years hehe. (Ok I also broke my HD 25s roughly 20 times, but the straps are user replaceable…)September 16, 2014 at 2:17 pm #2058321Annakyn
ParticipantAre the HDJ 2000’s now a thing of the past?

KeymasterNo they are still available, I just never thought them to be any good.

ParticipantI use the House of Marley Redemption Songs. Picked them up never used off ebay for $40 (the RRP is $100). They are on ear but I still like them as I’ve always been a fan of Marley gear.

ParticipantThe Vmoda is pretty nice it self, imo, you can custom design the “cup” parts with yur own logo or different color to make it more personalized, also it comes with some cool headphone case

ParticipantI haven’t a lot of experience with different models of headphones, and I’m by no means an audiophile. I am currently using Numark Redwave set and for a budget they are decent. I have some others on my list as well, such as the Sennheiser HD280. I listened to them for a couple songs and liked the sound, fit was also comfy and they were light, isolation seemed good as well. I know they aren’t a DJ specific set but I think they will be my next pair. Also on my list are some Reloop, Pioneer, and Shure models.
I have no easy way of trying them out or even seeing them in person, so I went off of some internet research and youtube reviews. I would say that comfort is a biggie, and if possible find a place that will let you test out a few pairs. I’m still unsure about the on-ear type, but think I will give at least one more of that style a try. So far I’ve found that over/around the ear types to be more comfortable to me. The Numark set I have aren’t comfy for long periods, but while playing out I’m not wearing them all the time, so they work out OK. For general listening I’m using some $25 headphones that I picked up at a record store, JVC I think is the brand on them. They are light and comfy and sound decent at moderate volume. I’m hopng the HD280 set will be a good replacement for these and then my son can keep the cheap set in his bookbag as that’s where they seem to be more often than not lately.
Good luck and keep us posted on what you end up getting and how they work out for you.October 6, 2014 at 7:49 pm #2068472Glenn McCrary
ParticipantHey guys. Thank you for all of your suggestions. I ended up purchasing the Skull Candy Crusher headphones. They were $99.99 + tax. I also purchased a protection plan.
