One will be alright, you will not need more.
How much power it needs is largely depending on where you want to place it.
If you place it on the floor it will need more power, if you place it on a stand at your “head height” and near to you, it might get in the way, but it will need less power.

    Good cheap choices are:
    Laney CXP-110 or 112
    Mackie SRM series
    LD Systems Mon Series G2
    Yamaha MSR series
or you can even use the EV ELX

Terry, many thanks for your detailed response and recommendations. I will check all of these out.

I use the Numark NPM-100s. Very compact, super sturdy, 100W RMS. With an adapter you can put them on a mic stand (mine also tilts so I can aim it directly at my ear). Unfortunately they are end of life for Numark. However I saw them as OEMs somewhere, trying to find out what brand. Also they might be in stock with some suppliers too.

Especially for travel I think they rock.

Thanks, DJ Vintage. I will explore those, too.

    Thanks, Parafinn.

Another alternative that I find interesting is the Behringer Eurolive 205D active 150 watt monitor, which looks like a clone of the Mackie SRM-150. It’s $50 cheaper in the US.

On the other hand, I prefer quality at a reasonable price over equipment that’s cheaper but crappy, so I’ll try to “audition” more than one of these various options.

The Behringer sounds like a tin can compared to the Mackie.

Terry, thanks for your additional comment, which is very helpful. I’m now definitely leaning towards the Mackie.
