1) My laptop is a big guy with a 17 inch screen specs all top notch (i7 processor, 8 gb ram and 1 tb harddisk)
Thats plenty enuff, Windows 7 i hope, just to be in the safe side
2) I am nervous just at the thought of being in public. i have been given the option to do a b2b with a friend, should I?
That also depends is your partner got more experiences under his/her belt ? If he/she is, i would take the offer, plus maybe he/she can bring his/her own gears also for backup purpose
3) how do I prepare for such an event. I primarily mix EDM but this is the average teen crowd and they will ask for R&B, slow songs and pop. How can I incorporate those genres with my primary music and make it interesting for the crowd?
Since this is your first time, imo, stick to what the crowds demands, in this case you in advantages cuz you already KNOW what the crowds wants, so dont force your “taste” to them not just yet, for this first time around play for the crowds.
4) in case of an emergency and something goes wrong with the setup or laptop how could I recover it… any suggestions?

If you decide not to take on partners, I would try to bring a secondary laptop with you, if you dont owned a secondary laptop, bring your dvd players load with some non stop mix, and ready to plug into the PA system just in case
