    That, my friend, is a nasty bit of swamp land you are getting into. Matching drivers in any audio systems is an art. Depending on the speaker quality, much thought has gone into the selection proces. The best bet in such a case is a one-on-one swap for the exact same type.

    You’d need to know frequency range, impedance and load. Also knowing something like spl (driver efficiency) is necessary to keep the speaker balanced.

    If you don’t care about sound quality you could get away with a driver matching the old ones impedance (ohm) and minimum power handling capacity. Within your budget I think you can get any 3 1/2 inch driver you can find and screw it in.

    Just don’t expect miracles and, imho, even a sound equal to what it was. If you have two of those speakers you most likely will end up with one sounding different from the other.

    Another thing is the size. Somehow 3,5″ doesn’t quite sound like the right size. Driver sizes are usually 3 or 4 inch, not in between. You have to measure the cone, not the entire driver including the frame.
