Always impressed with people who can make stuff like this from scratch.
+1 on getting real flightcase material (wood, profile, corner) and riveting stuff together.
Few advantages to that:
* you can use MUCH thinner wood (6 or 9 mm, depending on the use)
* your case will look very professional
* no need to paint as flightcase would comes in several colors and has a very hard, scratch-resistant coating
* Easier to apply things like flush (butterfly) locks and also to incorporate “bowls” that will hold connectors, so you don’t have to bring the cables in/out every time
* The slide in/out panels can be done easily with purpose made profiles, the same stuff that aligns the lid with the base unit
* your case will last and stay presentable so much longer
Also you can get very dense foam to make a custom interior that just glues in with spray glue and needs not covering in vinyl or anything.
I have built a few flightcases myself back in the day when it was harder to get materials. But these days you can just order it online, cut everything to size, drill holes for the rivets, glue in the inside foam, fix the locks and hinges and run the cabling.
