If you are getting a MacBook, one will do both tasks. If you are getting a windows laptop, I’d suggest making it dual-boot. This will allow you to run it as a seperate DJ laptop or as your school machine

    Hi,

I have a question also in regards to chosing a laptop. I am geting a Pc for Traktor Pro 2, only for djing. I am hesitating between two models:

    Asus: Asus K550CC-XX509H
    Intel Core i7-3537U (2 Ghz / 4 Mb. Cache L3 / TDP 17 W.), 8 Gb. DDR3 a 1600 Mhz, 1 Tb. 5400 rpm. Windows 8 (64 bits), Gigabit Ethernet, nVidia Geforce GT 720M (2 Gb. DDR3), Display: 15,6″ HD (1366×768) 1 USB 3.0 + 1 USB 2.0
    650€

    Lenovo:Lenovo IdeaPad G500s – 59402423
    Intel Core i7-3632QM (4 core; 8 thread) a 2.2GHz (turbo 3.2GHz), 16GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD±RW (±R DL), nVidia GeForce GT 720M 2Gb, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0,2 USB 3.0 + 1 USB 2.0, Display 15.6″ LED HD 1366×768, Windows 8.1
    700€

The point is I would like to have a computer stable, I think the ASUS meets this point. On the other hand the processor of the ASUS seems to be a bit poor in comparison with Lenovo. The problem with Lenovo is that serching on google I find several threads about technical problems, which is something I would like to avoid.

So, I would like a machine stable, reliabe which runs traktor smothly in all possible scenarios with no cpu load issues.

Please let me know you thougts and experieces to help me to make a decision.

If you think there is a better choice arround this budget +-100€ any suggestion is welcome.

    Regards.

To run a stable Windows machine I would make sure you ask that the vendor give you a copy of the OS on disc so you can wipe your hard drive and reinstall from scratch.
This ensures you have no bloatware or extra programs that every single laptop vendor always installs. You don’t need them so get rid of them.
You won’t need an i7 cpu, an i5 will do fine as will 4gb ram rather than 8gb. Usb 3 is not a requirement, more usb 2 slots is better.
As for the manufacturer I hear good things about Lenovo, Asus is also very good. If possible lose the nvidia graphics simply because you don’t need it, onboard graphics is more than enough for DJing.

Of the 2 options you gave I would choose the Lenovo, but that laptop would be wasted on just DJing. In my humble opinion you would be better served with a less highly spec’d laptop with more usb 2 ports and maybe a 1080p screen.

Just giving you my experience with laptop DJing 🙂

I am sure you can find problems about Asus laptops too. Unless there is an overwhelming amount of problems (and not with the brand but with a particular model) I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

As for the processors. Didn’t go in-depth, but both are previous (3rd) gen i7s, with the Asus being indeed the dual core model. Most DJ software (as a matter of fact very little software) is really written to take advantage of multiple cores and/or multiple threads. Some tools do have multi-core support (dBpoweramp for example has a batch MP3 converter that uses all cores).

So, all things being more or less equal, I think I’d spend the $50 extra for the better processor.

Lenovo is the old IBM PC/Laptop division and I know they make good laptops (few of my customers use them). And Asus is a very good brand too.
