ParticipantI think they are regarded as pop and therefore not available. Unless there is an album available you probably won’t find it. I don’t personally experience this as I don’t really care for pretty much anything that’s in the top 40 😛
If I wanted to find one of these tracks you have so many options it’s silly. There’s itunes, 7digital, the top40 website itself, amazon, the website of the label, the website of the artist, or you just buy their cd (yes, they still make those!).July 21, 2014 at 3:40 pm #2044598DJ Vintage
ModeratorOk, just to be clear. This is not the regular TOP 40 website I was talking about (I only keep an eye on that because of my mobile DJ-ing), but this is an actual DANCE chart.
Tracks on it are based on what is played in clubs. It’s significantly different from what’s in the TOP 40 charts.
Quite a few of the tracks are of artists that have multiple tracks for sale on Beatport, just not those.
Oh well, I’ll be hitting the other sites. Just odd if you think that Beatport portrays itself as the primary site for mainstream dance tracks, to the point that the Beatport Top 10 is almost considered POP or TOO commercial by some of our brethren here.

ParticipantIf I’m 100% relying on Beatport chart to spin in my home country, i prolly resign as a DJ
Since 50% of the local clubs music policy limited/restricted the use of the type of music we found in Beatport chart, kind of annoying in a way especially if we got behind in our music updates and we have our upcoming gig in one of those 50% clubs next week or somethingJuly 22, 2014 at 3:04 pm #2044917DJ Vintage
ModeratorHey Rizki, my point wasn’t so much whether or not BeatPort (in general) is a good place to buy stuff, but why they are not as up to date as I expected they would be. I think it’s ridiculous of a club to limit/restrict music based on what is certain charts, but that is just me personally.

ParticipantIs it from this site?->http://www.dutchdancelists.com/
If so, Koala is not out yet (August 4), Hat Tricks, Right Here and Down On My Luck can be considered pop, 4 & 5 are in the Dutch language, and the rest is on beatport. So nothing too shocking if you ask me. Some of them were even exclusives on beatport, like the one from Sander Kleinenberg.July 25, 2014 at 1:14 pm #2045865DJ Vintage
ModeratorHey Marco,
Cheers and yes, that’s the site. At the time of checking, there were 13 songs not on Beatport (out of the entire TIP 15 the TOP 10 and the newcomers (only 3 this week) in the TOP 40. I already cut them the slack for tracks 4 & 5 being Dutch songs so logically not on Beatport. You explained away 4 more (won’t discuss pop or not as I think that’s not all too relavant. It’s a chicken and an egg question really, isn’t it. Is it a dance track with such a wide appeal that it get’s played on radio and bought enough to hit regular Top 40 charts and thus becomes a pop track? Or is it a pop track that is so danceable that people want to hear it in venues and thus becomes a dance track), leaving 7 more unaccounted for from a grand total of 28. I didn’t check but I am willing to accept the rest of the Dance TOP 40 was on Beatport.
7 out of 28 means 25% and since I am somewhat of a statician, that qualifies as significant 😀It’s very well possible that some of those tracks already hit BP in the meantime.
At the end of the day it’s neither a complaint nor a serious question, more like curious and what do people do when they want tracks that are already played out in their country but can’t be found at BP, assuming they qualify as dance tracks.
Greetinx m8 & keep spinning!

ParticipantI can’t really define why exactly, but I just categorise them as pop in my head. I see other people doing the same. But I admit that I have seen tracks on beatport that I would put in the pop box. Nobody has the same criteria, and you kind of showed that in your investigation. I think that a better distinction would be if they were widely available, although it would be a pain to test that.
Beatport can do whatever they want and if they don’t see it as a beatport kind of track, they won’t provide it.Maybe you can ask them what their criteria are for putting tracks up for sale. That would be interesting information.

ParticipantI went ahead and asked them myself:
Q: “This is just a question out of curiosity, not a complaint. The charts these days have a lot of EDM inspired tracks in them, yet cannot be found on beatport.
What are the criteria for beatport to put tracks up for sale or not?”A: “Thank you for contacting us. It depends on the type of contract the distributer holds. For example, if they have an exclusive agreement with iTunes, they might not be able to release content on other websites for a period of time after the track is released.”
So they might have an exclusive deal with itunes, just like the exclusives you see on beatport.
