ModeratorLOL … it’s a simple question, yet hardest to answer.
Do a search here and on the blog. There are lots of articles on the process of selecting the right controller for YOU. That is the whole clue here. It’s a highly personal choice that depends on many factors that are important to you.
Almost impossible to advise someone.
The Buyers Guide over at the blog is a must read too of course.
If you have narrowed it down to 2-3 models that fit your specific software, workflow and features mix (and budget of course), let us know and we can comment on the individual controllers.
Good luck & greetinx.

ParticipantHeh… sorry for my open mind 😉
So far I came across the Pioneer DDJ-SB, the Denon DJ MC2000, and the Reloop Terminal Mix 2, all of ’em are at the price range I hoped for, although since I live in Israel prices may be different than what they are on the US/UK. All of them look like they make a good start (I’m using Serato btw).So here are the 2-3 models I found intresting. May I have your opinions on these? Thanks and cheers.

ModeratorIf you don’t have Serato full version yet, I’d also consider getting the BeatMix 4 with the full Serato deal.
I am a Denon fan, so my money would probably be on the MC2000 😀 .
Look forward to seeing what other have to say.

ParticipantDepends on the software you want to use, I’ve not seen VDJ8, but IMO Traktor and Serato is best software out there. I started on a mixtrack pro 2 and VDJ, and soon it wasn’t enough and got myself an S4 and haven’t looked back since.
Check out the buyers guide.

Seems like none of the new controllers in the BeatMix series have arrived to my country yet 🙁As for the MC2000, it does look like a great deal. I may consider getting it if I can’t find any better “results”.

ParticipantAs far as the software goes, Traktor is lacking behind
Serato and Mixvibe Cross been zooming ahead with new upgrades and stuff …
and of course the all new VDJ 8,July 8, 2014 at 8:18 pm #2041971Marco Solo
ParticipantIn what way is Traktor lagging behind? I don’t see either Cross or Serato having the great effects section, sample implementation or mapping capabilities that Traktor has. All the others are mostly getting what Traktor has had for years. The only thing Cross has over the others is Soundcloud integration.
Don’t think I’m a fanboy though, I own Serato DJ and Cross as well.July 9, 2014 at 8:08 am #2042190DJ Vintage
ModeratorHey Marco,
I think what Riz means is that there hasn’t been too many new features out on Traktor and they seem to be clamming up, in that they support NI hardware more and other hardware less.
Although I am not very well versed in Serato, the fact that they use Izotope FX means something (have used their plugins in recording environments). I think the Cross mapping is pretty good and probably easier than the Traktor one.
I can name quite a few things Traktor doesn’t have and others do and vice versa.
As we have discussed here before, it’s about DJ workflow. So what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. Hence it’s not possible to claim “best” for any DJ Software.
I tend to agree with Rizki that it SEEMS that Traktor has slowed down development, whereas Serato has made bounds and leaps recently, in both software development and market penetration/hardware support. Cross is also developing like mad, with versions 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 3.0, 3.1 and now 3.2 in little over a year. And there is VDJ of course who (finally) pulled version 8 out of the top hat not too long ago.
Greetinx.
p.s. in light of the sound quality of SC tracks and the copyright issues going on, I don’t really consider the integration a real “benefit” of Cross. I can see some merit in the Spotify integration in DJAY 2, but only for request purposes or sharing playlist and such. Frankly I am not sure that streaming services are the way to go. What with all the preparation needed to do a good set. But then again, you never know what the future holds.
