Well … you can safely assume that MOST tracks are in key as you get them. If you change speed of the tracks to make them work in a mashup, be sure to have keylock on. That way the key doesn’t change when you change the speed.
Try keeping your speed changes limited to 3-4 bpm either way.

Usually if something is off key you can tell. For the musically trained ear it’s possible to tell where it’s off, for less experienced ears there’s that “feeling” of something not being quite right.

Hope that helps and some of our musically inclined readers have more answers for you.

Phil did a video on harmonic / key mixing. It is on YouTube. You should definitly watch that. It probably awnser some of your questions.
There is also something called the camelot wheel. It shows you what keys sound good together. You could use that as a guide when making mash ups. Programs like traktor can also calculate the key of a track for you. Because not all tracks sound good or harmonic together. But it is like Vintage said. If you change the tempo of a track you will also change the key.
But there is alot to be found on DD tips on key and harmonic mixing. That would probably help you alot.

But also learn to trust your ears. If 2 tracks keys are a match but it sounds terrible. Than it probably is terrible.
