You shouldn’t connect two sources to speakers at the same time. The TRS and XLR are connected internally, so effectively you are shorting the mixer output to the soundcard output. Not a good plan.

All kinds of things can go wrong or even get damaged.

Since you have a mixer, it’s better to hook the outputs from the soundcard to the mixer and only the mixer to the speakers if you have spare channels on the mixer.

The Reloop WAVE-5 monitors are supposed to be connected to more than one source.
They have 3 available inputs (XLR, TRS & RCA)

You then cycle through them with the remote.

On the front of the monitor is an LED display to show which channel you are in. You can’t get 2 or 3 of those sources coming out of the speakers at the same time.

    Rear Panel

The Remore use to cycle through the sources

    Some dude reviewing them!

Ah, got it. Only checked out the back :-).

Well then, if we can eliminate the speakers (with the remote and everything, since it’s all been replaced?) and there are different cables, different sound sources, then it becomes really interesting as the only thing left is a surge in power, but ONLY if the surge leads to actual volume increase, which isn’t usually the case since most amps have built-in power stabilisation of some sort.

Especially in our part of (Western) Europe, the net is pretty stable to begin with, although surges do happen.

I have been in the US where it’s much more common to have various voltages in the net.

Does it happen at (more or less) set times in the day?

    Interesting.
I’ve double checked the power to these speakers and they do indeed come from the same power source, although that source is via a Belkin surge protector – could it be faulty? Dunno – it is probably 10yrs old or more.

I’m not sure about the time of day it happens – or whether something else is happening in my house at the same time?
I’m going to start to monitor and log the times – also, gives some thought to what else is going on in the house at the same time.

You are right about stable power in the EU. In the UK where I am, I get very stable power. I can’t even remember getting a power surge or failure (I’m in a good size city – Bristol) in recent times.

I posted earlier in the Reloop website and just checked again and other people are having the excate same issue. I wonder as I have had my monitors changed that this may be an inherient design fault that Reloop are not admitting to!

Below is a link to my Reloop support link.

Yes, if others have it too, then it does sound like a design flaw. Could be as simple as a condensor filling up very slowly, then releasing (causing the volume spike) then slowly filling up again.

I wonder if Phil Morse ever experienced this as he had them in his studio for a long time I think?

Here’s a link to a video I made of the problem happening. You’ll notice the LED goes off at the same time as the sound spike.

The loud click just after the sound spike is me clicking my fingers as I was chuffed to have caught the sound spike on video (after days of trying with my 60mins capacity video recorder).

I think I might send these back as well and request a refund.

Think I might be in the market for a pair of those Pioneer DJ05 monitors 😉

Yep, I’d say get your money back and buy something different (but Pioneer? Seriously, LOL!)

Juno Records are taking them back with full refund and did me a cracking deal on a pair of Rokit RP6 G3’s = 🙂

    Love Juno….

Good for you! And no Pioneers! And Rokits! (You could have saved us the picture though, it’s the most advised speaker on this forum I think, both 5s and 6s 🙂 ).

But seriously. You’ll love the KRKs (even without the remote control). No connecting two sources are the same time though.

    Good luck and greetinx.

My plan is to still have at least 2 devices connected to them – but via one of these. (Image is now obligatory)
