I think this is a waste of time. They should change rules and have a jury select a few mixes, and THEN let the social media make their choice.
But then again If you win the competition (even if it is crappy) it could give you a good boost!

In one sense I understand there will be a lot of entries and there has to be a way of cutting the wheat from the chaff but yeah it becomes a spamming contest of “OMG like my mix!” I mean hell, you can get a lot of likes and listens just with a picture of a half naked woman.

Always ask…Win or lose…IS THIS WORTH MY TIME?

If you’re looking for gains that come regardless of if you win or lose, then go with it. If you’re entering, knowing you’ll be begging for likes, then don’t waste your time.

And honest truth from a marketing standpoint: Most (not all) mixing competitions only serve to gain interest and likes in the sponsor(s) or holding websites. They do not care a bit who wins and what skill they have and they will make sure the price is the least hassle they can get away with.

This is not me being upset (thankfully I never took part and never needed to take part in such a competition) it is simply the truth.

I love remix competitions just for the free sound stems. πŸ™‚

with D-Jam remix contests are all me πŸ˜€ not just to get free stems but the chance of making my own version with actual real acapellas not DIY πŸ˜€
If you don’t win you can always make your own song out of the remix by changing it a little πŸ˜€

I used to go to a various DJ battle and mixing competition in my local town, with just only sole purpose to get the experiences and to get to know peeps

The local competition its just blend with too many “politics” for me, I already knew if this one “golden” boy shows up he will be the winner, hence by me entering the contest, I can rest assured with less nervous wreck and just perform the best of my ability with ease, I dont even care if i win or not

SO imo just ask yourself whats in it for me ?

Plus you could probably post your remix on SoundCloud and/or your own site.

Thus you have content on the net for others to find. It’s a win-win in many cases.

Remix contest are indeed more fun, I was mainly talking about those typical “send us a 10min mix and get us likes” stuff.

    Thanks for the input guys.

I think I may give the Mixcloud contests a miss and focus on remix comps and ‘real life’ DJing from now on!

It’s a shame really. They sound so cool in theory, but the reality is very different.

Hopefully the DDJT mix contest(s) will kick off soon!

In all honesty, I’d rather compete in a contest to win nothing, but it has actual judges and feedback…to show me things I perhaps didn’t see in my set.

Begging for likes is just a waste of time.

Now that I can 100% agree with.

Funny thing with online mix contests is like…I can do a mix in Ableton, cut’n paste and add FX and all, make it sound amazing, but could I do it live? This is why I appreciate small mistakes in peoples online mixes, shows me they actually did it in one go.

i have never entered a mix competition, but countless remix competitions, and if there is one thing that always seems to hold true: the competition organiser ALWAYS gets more out of it than anyone else. thats why there are literally hundreds of shit remix comps of songs nobodies ever heard of. its daft.
