You do know that carry the Z1 is more trouble than to carry a S4 in a good backpack?

Terry why do you say the Z1 is more trouble to carry around then S4?
It sure makes it a bit harder to mix without any transport controls at all.
The Z1 is basically a Audio 2 with mixer controls added to it. Although if you feel ok with using the the house mixer an audio 2 would be more practical as they already have the faders and knob you would get with the Z1. You have to remember that with only an Audio 2 or Z1 you need to use your mouse/keyboard for everything like hot cues, pitch, fx and so on

Gulli: Because you need an array of cables and knowledge (not to mention the Z1s form factor makes it worse to carry).
Hooking up a controller to a house mixer is easy, the DB levelling is totally easy and you have anything you need.
Hooking up a Z1 to a house mixer is hooking up something to something that already does the same thing …

I have a Z1 and I want to get an audio2 for hooking into an external mixer.

The soundcard gives you the option to split the channels specifically to two channels on the house mixer. That is if it is a decent mixer. The z1 just gives you a stereo pair out. Which go into one channel and all your mixing is internal.

Nothing wrong with the form factor in my opinion. Sorry but easier to put in a bag and carry around than an s4.
My setup has two x1’s, an F1 and the Z1. I have 4 usb cables in a simple snake that just plugs into a powered hub. works a treat.

Maybe after a few years I just got used to a controller backpack more than a bulky one, so yes this is of course my experience. Having used an S4 for quite some time I also think it has loads more potential for easy setup.

Your split setup with X1s, F1 and Z1 of course has other big advantages in flexibility and expandability. The knowledge involved in your setup is higher however, if something goes wrong a seasoned player like you will have no worries to fix it, where a newer user might panic and make it worse. Also due to your experience that I read from the Intro, I am guessing you have a really good picture in your head what you want from a setup, how to achieve it and what your workflow will look like. Here in this forum most questions are asked by rather inexpirienced people and we have to ask if they really know what the intended purpose is. Simplicity is king here, as I guess we both agree they are only tools and do not make a good DJ, a good DJ is someone expressing creativity through his passion of music, no matter the tools he uses.

Totally in agreement with you there Terry.

It is never about the gear it is the music you play and the people you entertain. 🙂

Also Terry I will try to bring the level down a bit. Expanding only when relevant

Ah keep it up, I love discussions and I can totally accept when people have different opinions. I love it actually. Many things in DJing are very subjective to ones workflow etc. so getting different perspectives even if discussed on different visions are always something you can gain from. So nothing wrong with that, on the contrary it spices things up and gets one thinking about your own methods.

I use two drums and smoke signals these days. It’s a branding thing.
