Yeah, the big advantage (to me anyway) is that Cross already had a feature that highlights harmonically compatible tracks in the browser list (so you don’t have to select on it or use a smartlist per key). Now when you go up or down 1 or 2 semitones, the player reflects the new key AND the highlights in the browser list change as well.
So, when you changed the key on the incoming track, after it becomes the playing track, the browser list shows the appropriate harmonically compatible tracks for that changed key!
Gotta love it.
I think Ferdinand’s wheel is spot on an a good help (so is the strip which you can easily stick somewhere (like above or below you laptop screen for example).
What wasn’t said in the blog article is that on the regular wheel, you can also go diagonal +1. I think (but frankly I forgot for sure) it’s clockwise inner ring to outer ring. So 12B to 1A, 3B to 4A. Unfortunately I don’t think those get highlighted. But you could make a smartlist in iTunes (or Cross although I haven’t tried that yet) and get that.
Now for every key you will have the regular and the 4 semitone shifts. For the B keys you will also have the diagonal.
So it greatly increases the tracks you can work with.
