    The 42 has a push button between the gain knobs and the EQ knobs on each channel to put said channel in LINE or PHONO mode.
    So push the button and your levels should be fine.
    Plugging a line source into a phono jack will introduce a lot of unwanted noise. Usually A&H mixers do not blow because of it (they are really well made) but the added noise and strange behaviour (colouring of the sound) will not be good.
    So push the right button and plug into the right connector….
