In my experience, changes in ownership are not always good. Prime example is when Greg Mackie left the company and their products have been slightly less reliable ever since

Yep, I hear that. I have to admit I bought some recent Mackie products (HD Series speakers) and DL1608 digital (iPad) mixer and they have been great to work with. So it’s not all bad, luckily :-). And it takes a company some time to go through a transition like this.

Again, if Denon can continue it’s technical quality while enhancing it’s marketing and customer awareness (designing gear not only with users in mind, but actually using them in the design process) the potential is there for great things.

In a sense it feels a bit like an old friend (I have been using Denon gear since forever, way before the first CDJ hit the floor) that announces that he is getting divorced and marrying someone else. You can only hope his new wife doesn’t change his good qualities but helps improve on his lesser ones.

I guess it depends on the marketing company.
Of course the professional department (Marantz) is something they are after and the whole DJ department could just be an addon.

So usually some marketing people will get on a table for the DJ brands they now own and consolidate them in some fashion.
    Likely being:
    – Killing one of the brands which is the least name in the mix (aka kill Numark and write Denon on everything or vice versa)
    – Diversifying the brands (for example make Numark the entry level brand and Denon the more pro brand or vice versa)
    – Diversifying by products (like they now do with Akai, Numark all make different things…)
    – Or kill the new brand all together and just make sure to use the intellectual property they need

I agree with Mr Vintage, Denon make some of the best DJ kit I’ve ever used but their marketing is a little lackluster. I would like to think that InMusic will see this and apply some know how to rectify the situation.
That’s my hope anyway, the reality remains to be seen.

How I see it, Mackie has become a bit like Behringer, you pay for what you get. The HD series which is the higher end stuff is quite fine. But the Thump series is dreadful, and the SRM-450v2 are quite inferior compared to the first SRM-450. And so on..

Yeah, I saw the new series thump and SRM in Frankfurt. They did seem to look and sound a bit better again.

Oh well, interesting times we live in.
