Theoretically any adaptor SHOULD work, provided voltage, amperage, polarity and connector size all match. Depending on the price difference, I have a slight tendency to opt for the original.

What I wonder about is, why would you want to use the SL2 at all if you are not using a laptop? Or is it just that you want to keep it hooked up and not have your laptop on sometimes?

Reading up on the subject, it seems that the SL2 thru function is now performed through the software, whereas the SL1 had it in hardware. And software means laptop on, I think.

    Hey vintage,

Ya, sometimes I just like scratching and playing beats without bothering with the software. I was wondering if I have to unplug the sl2 all the time if I want to use vinyl. If i do, that’s a serious downgrade from the sl1 (however I never owned one).

    I’ll keep looking into it.

    Nice one, vintage!

The good news of course is, you need the laptop on, but you don’t necessarily need to fire up the DJ software. I am assuming that as long as the soundcard “talks” to the driver the thru functionality is available.

There are other ways, but they involve making (or having made) a switch with some RCA ins and outs and routing. Let me know if you want to go that direction.

how would i get the THRU without having the software open if it’s activated through the software?

    thanks!

Not 100% sure, but I am assuming this is something that can be activated in the Asio driver that comes with it. The software doesn’t talk directly to the soundcard, it does so through the driver. Especially since I am guessing they don’t route the signal trough Serato when in thru mode, but just set thru=on in the soundcard. Anything else would only introduce unnecessary latency imho.

So, fair chance that there is a setting in the driver to set thru=on or something.

When you talk about the routing, what, exactly do you mean? What would be involved?

You now have things hooked up so that in Serato mode you use two channels and in thru mode you use another set of channels? Or the same channel and you switch phone/line?

    Hey man,

Ya, the first one. I use LINE mode with the box, and PHONO regular. Is that what you mean?

Yep. Ok, imagine a box with one set of RCA inputs (hook up the TTs here) and two sets of RCA outputs (A & B). Now you run two sets of RCA cable, one goes to the input of the SL2. The output of the SL2 goes to the line input of the mixer. The other one goes to the phono input of the mixer. The thru outputs on your SL2 are no longer in use. The box has an A/B switch. Let’s say A is regular. You set the switch to A, the mixer to phono and you are playing without the SL2 (no need to get the power supply either). Set the switch to B and the mixer to line. Now the TT sounds goes to the SL2 in, the outputs to the line in of the mixer.

The switch box can be pretty simple to make for someone with a bit of electronics skills and a soldering iron.

    Hope that makes sense.

Ok, I’ll look into that. Cheers, vintage!!
