MIK, its not even expensive. 54% is nowhere near good.

Your right, 58 bucks isn’t alot for solid key detection.

Check out this post to see just how every program compares in key detection: http://www.djtechtools.com/2014/01/14/key-detection-software-comparison-2014-edition/
MIK 6 is very, very good.

I agree. I use MIK exclusively and even the energy levels need some getting used to but are a good indicator. The Camelot scale beats everything in ease of handling (also available in Cross).

Hey guys, I’m the creator of Mixed In Key.

This is why we kick Traktor’s ass when it comes to quality of key detection: it’s our full-time job. Mixed In Key was started 8 years ago, and we literally spent the last 2920 days working on key detection. Traktor added key detection as an after-thought, it’s not the main focus of their company.

We’re going to keep working hard to improve MIK even more. We love our jobs.

    Hey Yakov,

You busy body you! How are you doing? Good to hear from you again.

And yes, +10 for MIK. 54% isn’t too bad? It means every other track is keyed wrong! It’s like saying this is not an unsafe street crossing, out of every two times I cross the street I only get hit by a car once! I’d rather take my chances on the crossing that gets me across safely 19 out of 20 times, lol.

Hey Yakov, glad you found your way here 🙂

Love the software, any song that lands on my DJ laptop is automatically added to MIK before I even add it to any library in another Software (Serato, Ableton,…). Keep up the good work!

Will any track I download from beatport, traxsource iTunes ect be added to mik? Just got it yesterday and I haven’t downloaded anything new yet.

Well I have an Mac Automator folder that does it.

So long story short: No you need to do it by hand. But all you need to do is drag your new songs on the MIK icon (at least on a Mac).

Not automatically, no. What I do is put everything I buy/download/whatever into a separate folder. Once a week or so I work MiK magic on the tracks, run them trough platinum notes, set all the tags correctly, rate them, fix filenames and put them in the right folders. Then I store the originals (high quality) on my network disk. Finally I add them to the collection in my DJ software (by scanning my music folder for new entries) and have them analyzed (beatgrid only! the rest is already done by MiK and PN). Finished!

I like having the original high quality track. If for some reason I want to work on the track (like in Ableton for example) I can start with (a copy of) the high quality original.

Ok I have a pc,I will try dragging new tracks into the mik icon, another ? I have is two songs will not give me the key one is a typical house tune and the other is a little scratch sampler, I’ve even reanalyzed them any thoughts?

I use KeyFinder. Good enough for free. Logically though labels that sell tracks on digital download sites that offer key info should already supply the key. People, like me, actually search for tracks by key. So maybe your track isn’t charting but if it’s good and I need something around 120-123 BPM in Dmin and up pops your track well…You got a sale.

Thanks Eliah I will try key finder but why will MIK not analyze acouple of those tunes I got? And what are something’s that I can do to fix this?

It should tell you (think there is a little exlamation mark or something) why they won’t analyze. Could be damaged file (had a few of those myself the other day), wrong format (although most major ones are supported) and, but I am taking a wild guess here, the files might not be in 44.1KHz/16-bit format. Not sure if the latter is an issue. Especially with sampler files coming out of DAW’s there might be a higher bitrate and/or sampling frequency involved.

Mixed in Key are pretty good at support. So if you can’t get them to work and it’s not obvious what is wrong with the files, drop them a note on their forum. Sure Chad or Yakov will get back to you.

    Hope that helps.
