ParticipantWhat kind of music do you play? What do you think your workflow will be seeing as you haven’t really started yet? What’s you budget?

ParticipantI will be playing electro house, with likely some hip hop and trap at times. I dont quite understand your second question. Budget probably isn’t more than $300, but I might be able to go high if need be.

ParticipantThe question I would ask is what do you want to get out of the software. Since you’re a beginner and every piece of software provides you with more than enough bells and whistles to get you started, think about where you want to go. What are the things that interest you? Effects, samples, scratching, etc are all things done better by one program than others. What do you want to learn?

KeymasterWith the genres you listed I am guessing your workflow will go more towards beat juggling, sampling, scratching,… things like that. As that fits very well into ele house, hip hop and trap also trip hop etc.
So with a budget of 300 I would look out for the Reloop Beatmix 4, comes with full version of Serato DJ and you are good to go with a full software package.

ParticipantExcellent suggestion Terry. Another thing to consider is how you organize your music, if you use itunes, and if you are interested in harmonic mixing.

KeymasterFor this I would highly suggest: Using iTunes and wonder about harmonic mixing later as you can do it with any software.

ParticipantHi guys, thanks for the responses! I think you guys pretty much hit the nail on the head. The Reloop Beatmix 4 looks like a great controller, although it is about $411. Besides 4 vs 2 decks, is there any major difference between that and the Beatmix 2? The price is a little bit higher than I’d like, but is it a worthwhile investment over other controllers?

ModeratorIt comes with a FULL version of Serato DJ (for a limited time), which translate into not having to buy the, I believe, $ 129 upgrade, making it a real no-brainer really.

KeymasterYes and the Beatmix 2 only comes with Serato Intro, so you need to factor in 100 bucks to get full Serato DJ.

ParticipantYou should give us a heads up when it’s going to drop…aren’t you a Reloop Rep Terry?
April 3, 2014 at 7:37 pm #2021294Terry_42
KeymasterNope I am not a reloop rep.
I just used their controller for 2 years live now and I got to hang out with them once a year at Musikmesse in Frankfurt and they show me their new stuff. However I also hang out with Mike from Vestax, the Numark guys, check the Pioneer booth, ADJ guys,… (sorry if I miss anyone) and I bought the controller fair and square and could have bought any other…
So I am also not endorsed etc.I actually dislike the idea of endorsement, even when I was still in my prime (and actually desirable as an endorser) I did not go for any offers, as I like to use what I like to use and I never actually got to a level where they would offer me loads of money (because then I would probably have said yes hehe).
But I do get the newsletter and can of course drop a line when I get the release message.

ParticipantSweeeeet…man I almost even got the Pioneer SB or Mix2…buuuut the beatmix 4 is just too juicy of a deal! Eh Terry and Vintage, do you guys have a soundcloud / mixcloud accounts that I can check out?
April 3, 2014 at 7:46 pm #2021302Terry_42
KeymasterYes, but most stuff I upload is actually students of mine doing it and I upload it so the other students have access to it and can discuss on it…
