The b*tch has always been in the processing. Apart from having RIAA correction in place (by using a phono preamp instead of line input -this is usually built-in in specific hardware for vinyl ripping) there is lots that can be wrong with vinyl rips. Crackles, tics, noises of all kinds, there can be speed variation and a host of other things. Many software programs have tried over the years to automate the process of cleaning up vinyl. Most do a semi-decent job, some good. The only way I have ever seen it done really good is with high end DAWs with very good plugins and a very good sound engineer doing it manually.
I stopped ripping many years ago. I tried to find downloadable files for tracks I own on vinyl. This works for most tracks.
Can’t tell you what is the best software for automated vinyl rip cleanup these days.
