    As a long time raver, I’d personally expect the 3rd DJ of the night to be bringing pretty high energy. Your “job” is to bring people to the dance floor and get them hyped up for the headliner who is after you.

    I’d also make sure the last track you play is an absolute banger. Make sure everyone in the venue wants to be on the floor right before the headliner is being introduced!

    Play tracks that have energy but that are not “famous”. If you play an electro-house/EDM type gig then you should avoid playing tracks like Animals or Greyhound, stuff like that because the DJ right after you might play one of those famous songs. Play tracks that have the same energy but that are not famous.

    A few examples : songs by Leventina, Cazzette, Hard Rock Sofa, Sick Individuals… Random clubbers may not know the songs but they will probably like it. Avoid Garrix, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell and artists that may be played by the next DJ.

    I hope that I’m not wrong with your definition of “electro-house” btw… Haha.

    Not to hijack but do headliners ever say “OK don’t play any of these tracks.”?

    Yes, sometimes headliners request opening DJs not to play certain tracks.

    No offense @Weaver, but I would definitely not end my set on a banger. Yes, your job is to have the dancefloor packed for the headliner but if you end on a banger, you are forcing the headliner to start with a banger or risk losing the energy. Keep in mind that the headliner is probably from out of town and might not know that particular crowd. They also might not know what sounds good on that particular sound system. Give them the room to feel their set out.

    I would advise playing a banger as your third to last track, then keep them hooked with two solid tracks as you end. This will allow the headliner to start with a solid audience but give them the room they need to tell their own story.

    lol that could be, Rob! I pretty much only do hardcore parties so I’m expecting to be pumped up the whole night. 9 hours of pure energy in some sketchy club is how I’ve partied for a good 10 years lol. I want to dance and I want to dance hard. I’m sure things are a lot difference in the trance scene, for instance.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys! I asked the promoter and he said due to a variety of circumstances I could still bamf it out! I rocked 700 people with a killer set!

    You guys are awesome for the advice, I’ll definitely come here for more opinions!
