practice lots and prepare as much as possible without totally preplanning the set…
I’m still a NOOB and I’d be stoked to be in your position…. and nervous as hell… 🙂

Well you did something very right: You had a plan and you executed it. You prepared and people liked it.
Nothing wrong with that and actually better than 50% of the new DJs that I see.

So my recommendation is: Go with it. You seem to love what you are doing and you can expand on this.
Next time maybe do not pre-train the whole set, but try to mix it up.

    Stick to the golden rules:
    – Never hesitate
    – Never panic
    – You are the coolest

Prepare double the amount of music (at least) that your set is long. Practice loads with the prepared song, but do not do a whole mix (do like 15min of mixing, take a break, do 15min of mixing,…).
I seldom drink alcohol before or during a gig, since I consider it unprofessional on my side, but when I am really nervous or jittery, I drink 1 good long drink before my set (like a Campari Orange works really well). So you are not drunk, but it does loosen you up a bit.

    But the most important:
Keep true to yourself, do what you are comfy with and do not try to pull of stunts that you cannot yet perform.

Thank you guys for the advice! It’s nice getting advice from people who are really in the scene haha. Been practicing a lot this weekend. Thank you so much!

I think that you’ve got some awesome opportunities and you should go for it 🙂 I also think that there won’t ever be a time to start doing regular paid gigs when it doesn’t feel like you’re in over your head if you’re just starting out, I’m new to this and I got nervous just reading your post lol… just don’t do what I did and spend half a decade perfecting your craft without ever getting in front of a live audience because you’re waiting until you don’t feel nervous about it, I’m a bundle of anxiety and I’m keen as mustard to get started.. I just had a change of attitude…

    best of luck!

    peace

You’ll have to wait, but the last part of the series on Promotional Materials is on making DJ videos.
