Influence vs. stealing

In my opinion, absolutely not. I don’t consider it stealing any more than copying someone else’s athletic technique is stealing. Sure, some people may frown upon it and say “Oh, he’s just trying to look like (insert athlete),” but if it means that you’re the one scoring the points, power to you.

Of course, like you mentioned, that’s got its limits. Don’t go copying an entire set, but there’s nothing wrong with imitating someone else’s transition/programming when it fits into the set and your personal style.
