You are totally right. It is about music, your passion and love for the music you play and how well you can react to the crowd and entertain/please them.
It does not matter what you use to achieve this and I could not care less what other DJs might think about me. I only care about the people I entertain. This is the fundament of a good DJ and not what tools you use (and software is just another tool). I have already witnessed Djs with a 200 bucks controller and VDJ-LE outshine DJs with a Pioneer S1… it is not about the tools…

Cheers Terry_42. Its so easy to get caught up on the wrong thing as opposed to coming back to why you want to DJ

    Beepo,
It seems you have figured out the answer by yourself.
Whenever i get those funny looks or comments from other DJs, i always tell them ‘Let the dance floor be the judge’

I would have to agree with the overall post.

It is all about the music and should never be about anything more than the music.
HOWEVER! Software is just like hardware…I started off with VDJ and now using Traktor i will never go back to VDJ…
gotta think of software in terms of hardware…they all do the same thing in the end…its just a matter of personal tastes.

And yes you will potentially get flamed on for using certian pieces of hardware or software…thats just the industry.

But you gotta look beyond that…and if you cant…well thats a personal issue.

I used to get flamed when i first started gigging with my S4, now no one says anything because they know i can rock the house.
