    it begs the question, are they dropping the price on a second generation using inferior components to regain the loss in sale price, or cutting their losses against the competition? whatever it means it is probably ushering in the end of quality mid range controllers only to be replaced with disposable ones like the S2 and mixtrack…

    There’s no way Denon would downgrade the spec, take them on their track record. It’s more likely a reaction to the Kontrol S2 price drop of the last couple of months.

    Agreed, I don’t see Denon entering the low-spec market – it doesn’t fit their overall positioning as a company. More likely I suspect one of two things:

    – they over-built the unit and have too much inventory sitting around,

    – or, the one I hope is the case, they recognise the importance of brand loyalty in this business and are trying to bring in the next generation (versus the NI and Numark catalogue).

    After watching their CD units go from total dominance to relative obscurity in the club market, it would warm my heart to think they learned their lesson and will be a little more aggressive about holding their own in the controller market.
