MemberYes I think there is, but that’s what they have behind the booth. How about beyond the booth? Like I was kind of asking where should I connect my controller. Something that maybe goes like this.
Laptop->Controller->Speaker in my home setup.
But it’s a totally different setup in mobile. It’s kind of more like this (not so sure about this though)
Laptop->Controller->Mixer(?)->Amps(?)->Speakers(?)
And I don’t even know if that’s correct. :p

Memberhaa sorry bro i carnt really help you out atm, i just have VDJ(LAPTOP)> 5.1 SURROUND SOUND SPEAKER. HAHA but at my old school we usedto plug to speakers into a controller box that had like the bass,tremble and pitch,
so it went like this SPEAKERS/LIGHTS>MIXER(CONTROLLER)> AND THEN THE MIXER WAS SOMETIMES PLUGGED INTO A LAPTOP? i think im not to sure bro

MemberHehe, what we have currently is a home setup. What I’d like to know of is something sort of a semi-pro sound system. Or something close to it just for small events. Definitely a 2.1 or a 5.1 surround speaker setup is not really intended for parties and events, right 😛

MemberOk, so you’re thinking the mobile dj route? Essentials – at least two mains (the two main ‘above ground’ speakers) and if it’s EDM you’re thinking about you will need at least one solid subwoofer separate from the mains, also a mixing board. Now it’s cheaper to get unpowered mains and subs – but you will then need to go amp shopping; and those are pricey beasts as well. My suggestion would be to start with a solid mixing board, two mains (probably about 400 watts each) – but you could get away with one if it’s loud enough and the space isn’t too big, and one sub – all self powered; this makes setting up easy and will be cheaper in the long run. For brands, stay away from Fender and Behringer – they are geared more towards singer/songwriter types and are EQ’d a little harsh for my taste – their price makes them appealing but resist! but I will say Mackie makes a great set of mains and some solid subs at a decent price – always try the used equipment route first. But I would say go into a music store with your basic set up and test some stuff out, they should let you try them as these are huge amounts of cash you will be dropping. When I rent out equipment mackies are usually what I get. Hope this was what you were looking for.

MemberIn terms of semi pro PA setups, lots of people like different things. It’s really down to budget, and in some sense preference.
Do you want powered speakers? Or are you determined to have a separate amp driving passive speakers?
I’ve seen Mackie Thumps recommended, but personally find Mackie’s to be a bit bright (and “American”) in their sound colouration. Lots of people like JBL Eon’s (but I find them even worse than the Mackies. Damn things bark at you when they’re loud. The only advantage is how easy they are to move around).
I have 2 Wharfedale EVP-15X 15″ full-range and 2 Wharfedale EVP-15XB 15″ subs. Heavy because of the wood boxes, but I really like the sound they give – and they go damn loud (400W RMS amps in them, innit)
The idea is as you’ve said it: Laptop -> Controller -> (Mixer) -> (Amp) -> Speakers. The Mixer isn’t required if your controller has decent outputs (you want balanced outs on it. TRS or XLR doesn’t matter, but balanced really does, here). The Amp isn’t required if you use Active speakers.
I’d still prefer a mixer between the controller and the speakers, but I think you could get away without it if you really had to.
Lights are another story entirely, and one I don’t have a lot of good advice on. I have a Double Derby, and a “spinning ball” thing (hard to describe, and I don’t have a link handy) – would love some proper moving heads, and/or some lasers, but I’m not really aiming to be a mobile DJ so I don’t need a lot more than that.

Member@elgieff agreed on the JBLs – way overpriced for the sound quality IMHO. never heard of Whaferdale, will have to give that a shot.
@Paul if you are thinking of buying this stuff keep in mind in the US, the powered speakers and powered sub alone would cost around $1500 – $2000 conservatively, which in the PI is somewhere around 80,000 pesos.

Wharfedale are (or used to be) designed and made in England. I have a horrible feeling they’re now manufactured in China (not necessarily bad).
@Paul: The other thing I’ve seen suggested (and considered seriously when I bought my PA) are the B-52 Matrix systems. 2 + 1 setups, the tops are quite small (10″ and an 18″ sub) but I’ve heard really, really good things about both the sound quality, the air they move and the portability. YMMV

MemberHi All, yes thanks for the suggestions. However am I correct in my general Idea that it goes like that? The
Laptop>Controller – RCA Out>Mixer – RCA In> Amps>Speakers?
Is that the way how those things should be connected? Sorry, I’m totally waaaayyy new about these stuff although we do setup band instruments when I still had a band.

If the controller has RCA outs, you’re using a mixer and an amp, then yes. That’s the chain, at least. It’s exactly the way you setup your home system (the speakers you’re using are self-powered, so the amp is in them), but the soundcard goes into the mixer, and the mixer main out goes to the speakers.

MemberHey thanks guys. I’m looking at this PA mixer(not really sure if I’m correct), it’s pretty much a budget mixer IMHO. It’s an Allen-Heath Zed-10FX.
http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=ZEDSeries&ProductId=ZED10FX
As most of us know about the Mixtrack Pro(this is my current controller), it has two RCA outputs at the front of the controller. I’m not sure if I found the specs of the Zed-10FX to be correct, but I figure that it has “2 stereo sources with MP3 player compatibility” I just am not sure if this is the one that I should be looking for to connect my Mixtrack Pro into.
Then from there, I should connect this to the amps or to the speakers via the “XLR main stereo outputs with inserts” or “Stereo monitor outs”? Am I correct with this one?

That’s probably way more mixer than you need, bro – but yes, it should work exactly the way you expect. I checked the manual, the stereo channels on it have both RCA and Jack inputs.

MemberOh cool, thanks man! Now I know that I am in the right direction! And then from that mixer, I’d connect it to the amps. Then from the amps, I would connect my two monitor speakers and a subwoofer. Am I correct? Thanks!
