Is the Akai APC 20 + abelton a good setup for hip house/ disco house/ chicago house production?

Pro Tools is not going to make your life simpler. Ableton is good for all dance music, but there’s a learning curve. The APC20 is fine as a hardware interface. You need to get some training and lock yourself away for a few months to get core competency.
