youre better off renting. you can get a 10″ powered speaker, stand, and cables for $50. Since you’re doing it with your friend you can ask him to help you with the cost. you can try using some loud computer speakers but everytime i do that, i end up blowing a $150-200 system.

if this is a one time thing, then go rent. if its going to be more frequent, you should look into investing into a powered PA speaker.

+1 to that! It is better to rent a pair of powered speakers.
QSC K series or Mackie are good but IMO you will be fine with any 12″ (or 15″) powered speakers with above 500W/speaker amp.

rcf art 310a or 312a would be the cheapest i’d look into and they compete well above their value

I started looking in to the Mackie Th-15a Thump series… Look like a good buy thus far.

If you have the chance, compare them to QSC K12 before making your mind up.

I am very happy with my QSC K12’s and QSC K-Sub as they never let me down
New years eve I did a gigg in a place that takes +2000 persons and
I ended up playing in about no more than 50% volume on K12 and 25-30% on K sub

    Cost of 2 mackie th-15 = $500
    Cost of 1 of those qsc’s > $650 right?

Cost is a consideration for my first pa system… So I can gig and reinvest to either expand the mackie setup or sell and upgrade.
