I currently use the mixtrack with a audio 2 soundcard into my macbook pro and traktor pro 2.
Im thinking of getting either the S2 due to its price drop or maybe even the new Xone K2 (when it finally comes out)
but
I was also thinking of going down the mixer and X1 route – which is more compact and easier to use in club situation.
Is there a usb mixer out there which plugs straight into my macbook pro which has built in audio soundcard with 3 channels so i can route the 3 channels from inside traktor (third channel would be for loops/samples etc)
or would i have to buy an ni audio 6 soundcard and route that into the back of a normal analogue mixer and do it that way?
If so what kind of prices can i expect, i.e. what the cheapest way of going about both routes? ;)))
The nearest thing i can think of is the DJ Tech X10 and a Traktor X1 like in Phils review here but its only 2 channels not the 3 im after ;(
http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/07/dj-tech-x10-digital-mixer-review/Since you’re considering the mixer + X1 option but want control of more than 2 channels, then I would look at the Zomo MC – 1000. In built sound card with 4 channel control. It’s compact as basically does the job of 2 X1’s.

Hey Eros, thanks for the reply.
How does the Zomo work with the mixer soundwise? Does the Zomo plug into my laptop with usb and then the Zomo plugs into any analogue mixer or does it have to be a pioneer mixer like in the picture??

MemberThat looks like it’d be harder to plug in at a club then 99% of controllers, especially if it needs the entire back of the mixer…..

ParticipantI don’t know of any 3channel mixer that is Traktor certified so you will proberbly get a 4channel mixer.
Then I would recommend the Denon X1600 or X1700 wich IMO is the best value for money in mixers.
There is a lot of others but they eather has not the same quality IMO or has a higher prize but IMO not better quality
Pioneer 900 Nexus or 2000 for example…..February 20, 2012 at 7:22 am #15260eros
Member@Rekutt: The Zomo has an inbuilt sound card and by all accounts it sounds awesome. It’s not available where I am yet so I’m still waiting to demo one which I want to pair up with a DJM 900 Nexus. It does not have to be paired with a Pioneer mixer any brand will do. It connects to your laptop with a USB and to the mixer with 4 sets of RCA cables.

This is the link from Phils review & a blog RealRasputin started on it a few weeks ago for more info and pics :

The only guy I know on the forum that has one is RealRasputin. He loves it and says it works great. If you have any specific queries just fire him off a question, he’s a nice guy and sure will help you out.
@shr3dder: You’re totally correct the one draw back is that connecting is not the easiest thing with this unit. You have to be able to access the entire back of the club mixer so if you’re taking over from another DJ you would need to unplug the 3 spare channels, and plug in 3 channels of the zomo, then let the other guy play out, start your set, then plug in the final channel once you’ve started. Also the guy after you will probably hate you … but if you’re a considerate DJ you could plug back CDJ’s / TT’s into channels that you’re not using to make the transition towards the end easier. Guys who use it say if you practise the process a few times at home it’s not a big deal once you know what you’re doing. Also the Zomo doesn’t have to sit behind the mixer you can put it anywhere, even infront if you want:

ParticipantI do not understand why anyone should buy the Zumo if they have a Traktor certified mixer with a very good soundcard.
(Pio DJM900 Nexus for example) In that case IMO all you need is one or two Denon SC2000 without soundcards for example. It is IMO a bad way of spending money on a soundcard you do not need??http://www.dm-pro.eu/en/denondj/products/56/dn-sc2000-usb-midi-controller-with-2deck-support/

MemberWell I mentioned the Zomo because its one of the smallest 4 channel controllers out there.
The Pio DJM 900 Nexus is Traktor certified and can be mapped to act as a stand alone MIDI controller.
http://www.traktorfreaks.com has it available as a free download but geeeez it’s confusing. The advantage
of adding a Zomo is that it provides all your transport controls, has pitch paddles/faders so takes CDJ’s
out of the picture and its such a compact unitFebruary 20, 2012 at 5:32 pm #1003044realrasputin6@googlemail.com
ParticipantHello Folks,
@Rekutt please let me know if you have questions about the Zomo MC-1000 🙂
@DJ Hessler, I have the Zomo MC-1000 and the Pioneer DJM-900. Both are the perfect Team, not only the perfect Team, the Set-Up is a dream :-).
I can use the fantastic effects from the DJM-900 PLUS all Traktor Effects which i control with the Zomo. So you can bring your creativity to the next level. Also i like the arrangement of both, i placed the Zomo in Front of the DJM-900 like on the picture from Eros, which fits very good, you can t place any other controller like that on the DJM-900. The ergonomy is just perfect, it feels like a bigger DJM Mixer. Also you can work very quick. I also like the Potis and Keys from the Zomo which are exactly like the Pioneer Gear. So if you love the Pioneer Gear you will love the Zomo too.February 20, 2012 at 5:45 pm #15291Rekutt
MemberThanks for all your replys, i defo have something to think about now 😉
It sounds like the Zomo and DJM-900 are what i would be looking for but to be honest both together would be way out of my price range ;(
To be fair for what i have to spend which is around £350 i dont think it will be possible to get what i want unless i go for a real cheap 4 channel mixer to go with the zomo. If i was to pick a cheap 4 channel mixer which would be a good option? Is the Nox 606 any good? but this would still push my over my budget too ;(
Im considering the Traktor S2 due to the price drop.
February 21, 2012 at 1:02 am #15322eros
Member@Rekutt: In that case you should definitely get the S2 whilst this offer is on. This will also come with the full version of Traktor Pro 2 whereas with any other controller you will have to pay for an upgrade. Also the mixer doesn’t have to be the DJM 900 Nexus (that’s just IMO an awesome set up) .. you can pair the Zomo up with a DJM 800 or a lot of other cheaper 4 channel mixers.
@RealRasputin : Hey great to see again man !! Hope all is good…would you believe no one down here stocks the Zomo yet ! Just a quick question for you regarding the beat effects. Does the DJM 900 automatically detect the BPM of the tracks you’re playing off Traktor and does it sync/quantise them with the beat effects ?
February 21, 2012 at 2:06 pm #15353realrasputin6@googlemail.com
Participant@eros nice to see you again! ow what a pity! why not importing the Zomo? I don t think its that expensive…
Yes the DJM-900 automatically detect the BPM of the tracks, which i play from Traktor and sync them with the beat effects 🙂 Sometimes its not that correct, but you can tap it 😉
@Rekutt i wouldn t recommend you the S2, the quality should be very bad. I am sometimes at the NI Forum, checking for Traktor Stuff, and there are a lot of people which are not happy with the S2. I mean A LOT People! Also a good friend of me, was spinning with the S2 on a show, and the S2 shut down. The funny thing was, there where people from NI with him lol. I would wait a couple of years to go with controllers from NI, they have to step up their quality game.
i would recommend you a Vestax Mixer, like the VMC-004 . The Quality is nice and solid! If you need more information about the mixer check thisLINK . I was spinning with a mixer from this series already, and it was very good. I am also a vestax fan, i ve never been disappointed from this brand in the last 15 years. I still have 2 Vestax PDX Turntables for over 10 years.
or maybe the Stanton RM414. But no experience on this one 🙁 -
