Awesome story, or should I say “personal journey”. I think you hit the nail on the head with your “how much do you want it?” line.

i gotta admit.. i have mixed feelings about your post…. a good dj can do his job with anything… and while harmonic mixing is a treat to the ears… back in the day.. before serato and traktor and other dvs/laptop systems… you had to build a crate and work with what you had… no wave forms no cues no loops no sync button… i can only hope that the days of the “auto dj” will soon die because it is a starting to kill the art so many worked so hard to build and get recognised… my suggestion watch the movie “scratch” by doug pray so you can get a idea of where the art came from and what had to happen for it to grow… im glad you have found the love, but it hurts to know some out there cant “dj” without modern technology

i agree with you and i personally would get everything from dj controllers to vinyl and cdjs but right now money is an issue and while i appreciate the art and the history i think we should keep moving forward. It is true that some of us cant dj without the modern technology as many of us cant cook without a pan and a stove or commute without a car or a subway but the way i see it, that is not actually a bad thing because maybe things got easier but it also means that is going to be harder to stand out and raises the bar that separates a good dj from a bad dj. Maybe things got really easy when we got the stove and the pan but we got introduced into a whole new level of culinary arts that was impossible to reach before. As we know a good cook from the past maybe only had a bonfire and a wooden stick but as time goes by we create more and more amazing things by breaking barriers with technology and after all im pretty sure that no machine will replace us anytime soon. Thanks for the comment!
