Well, the 4-Trak probably isn’t out for 2-3 months more so that may sway you.

If you are regularly using that many cue points per track you are going to be custom mapping whatever you use – so you should be looking for total button count, and make sure those buttons don’t control other things you may want to access at some point!

However, my first thought is to get whatever controller you are comfortable with, and also something like a midi-fighter (ie. a second unit external to the controller that has a pile of buttons on it). That way you have your control surface working as designed, and all kinds of extra buttons to the side dedicated exclusively for cue points.

That said, I’m not a mapping guy, so I’m sure others may have better ideas for you…

I went with the VCI-400, and I am very happy with the unit. I’m using a mapping from Hetchbend on the traktor bible page (http://www.traktorbible.com/freaks/mappingview.aspx?id=326) that provides 8 cue points, which is plenty really. I’m still getting familiar with the unit (my first controller) but am quickly coming to love it. I’d definitely recommend it.

Small word of caution, i tried using it on a slightly older PC in addition to our macbook pro, and the PC wouldn’t recognize the unit. they recommend 2GB of RAM and my older PC reports 1.99GB, and it won’t recognize the controller. In any case, it works great on the MBP.

Hi, I’m having exactly the same debate in my mind! I went into a shop a little while ago almost sure I was going to buy the VCI 400 but when I saw it in the flesh I was a little disappointed. it was just about a quarter too small! I know compact is a good thing, and it wasn’t really cramped or anything, but I have a vestax mixer and was expecting the filter knobs to be the same size as on my mixer- but they were smaller, and I was expecting the pads to be the same size as the ones on my novation launchpad, but again they were about 3 quarters of the size I wanted. I guess more most people that would be fine, they were easily big enough to put a finger or two on, but I wanted it just a little more spaced out. Perhaps if I actually demoed it with my laptop plugged in I might change my mind, but it made me hold and and wait anyway.

Ive got 19″ rack controller right now and I would like something that looks a bit more like a “proper” 2 decks and a mixer. DJ’ing can be a visual thing so it’s nice for people to be able to see what your doing if possible. So for me, I’m leaning towards the 4track right now, but I’m definitely not going to buy anything until I’ve put my hands on it in person.
