MemberWell you did say you wanted awesome jogs & a controller that you can scratch with, I think the video will help. The VCI-400 comes with MIDI maps and overlays for Traktor Pro 2 that you can download off the Vestex support page, it’s not a very difficult process.

I have an S4 and I’m really enjoying it. Im able to run my Arturia Spark drum module, and my Novation Ultranova into my computer through USB and out of the Traktor S4’s soundcard so I basically have 4 decks and my own beats and synth all running out of one channel…still new to the digital d.j. scene but seems pretty cool….never tried the Numark so i cant tell you much about that one. Traktor Kontrol was created for Traktor Pro softtware though so it intigrates seamlessly.

Memberim trying to make the same decision!
i did consider the denon dn mc 6000 but i have two mc 2000’s and i feel claustrophobic playing them and press the wrong buttons quite often, the deck switch funtion i find completely unusable as the effect knobs etc are all in the wrong place and it takes too much mental strain to switch to the right deck under pressure. i liked how the mc 6000 has every feature you could possibly need but its all too cramped. also the buttons like cue 1 felt like they would wear out so i was always conscious that i should try to tap it less which isnt fun. so i ruled that out, i did really like the jog wheels on the denons with the touch sensetive platter on the top (which could be switched off) and the CDj style pitch control from touching the sides of the platter, does the vci 400 have that? the kontrols wheels look pretty rubbish as far as i can see. Also another deal breaker for me is the inputs and analogue mixe capability, can you run CD’s into the vci400/s4 and straight out of the mixer? i think in this sites review they said you need to rout it through traktor on the vci400, does that mean a timecode setup? i want to expand later and get cdjs and use them as a bakup should my latptop go into meltdwn. also the lack of rca out is a minor inconvenience on the vci 400. but everything else on it looks perfect. is it a case of good jog wheels or no analoge mixer?April 19, 2012 at 4:03 am #1003610Edgard Rivera

Use the switch bottom to change from regular deck to sampler deck. The 6000 have the pitch fader on the top not on the side like the 2000. Yes is cramped but fun, 4 decks total control.

If you are having problems with the SC2000’s, then don’t bother with the MC6000. I have both, and have never had the problems you describe, but overall the controls on the 6000 are a little tighter, so ya, skip it if you find the 2000 cramped.
That said, you really need to put your hands on a 400 then, because I don’t find the layout to have that much more space. Ditto for the S4 (slightly bigger buttons yes, but not a lot of space between them).
With the problems you are describing you should probably look at a modular solution, as most all-in-one gear is going to have tighter workflow.
As a side note, you don’t have to worry about wearing out the buttons on one controller over another. Almost every mid to pro manufacturer uses a similar type of micro-switch under the buttons, and they are dirt cheap to replace.April 19, 2012 at 3:31 pm #1003617Hee Won Jung
ParticipantThe VCI400 will have standalone mixer functionality but as far as i know it does not support timecode.
The S4 does support timecode, but does not have standalone mixer functionality.
Both of them however do support live input…so u can use CDJs as CDJs and use Traktor to do the mixing.
I know what you mean by the mc6000 feeling cramped. The S4 has bigger buttons and the spacing is a little bit better than the mc6k…i never have any issues hitting the wrong button on my S4.
