I use these and find them quite good for the price and size. They’re good enough for practicing and they have RCA inputs which is useful.

All depends what your budget is. If you are looking to spend under 100 then i would stick with computer speakers and a sub. until you can afford some Studio/DJ Reference Monitors.

Look into KRK, Mackie, Yamaha brand Studio Monitors to get an idea of what you will want in the future. Another idea would be check your local kijiji or craigslist and see if there are any used…you can usually find some great deals on there.

You see that big square thing between the two speakers in the picture? That’s called a “sub”. 😉

Maybe you need one with a retractable Periscope or a large fish?

IMO if you are going to spend 300 bucks…Pick up to 2 KRK RP5s and add a sub in the future or a single KRK RP8 and add a second RP8 in the future. The difference in sound quality between a computer system and Studio monitors is just so vast that you cannot really compare imo.

I rocked a 50 person house party with 2 RP8s and a 10″ Sub and people were loving it.

Not to jump off track but I just got my KRK G2 5s and am loving them. Is the KRK sub worth the 300?

With the 5’s you will definately see the added benifit of getting the KRK Sub.

Even with my 8’s I REALLLLYYY love having the Sub. Is it worth the 300 bucks…well you could probably find something that would be the equivalent for less…but The sub looks so damn sexy with my 8s that i wouldnt have it any other way.

Mind you i got my 8s for 250 for the pair…and i got the sub for 200 all used but in mint condition

I was actually wrong the KRK sub goes for 400 new. I will have to pick one of these up used then.
I see a Fostex Active Sub Monitor (like new condition with original box for $75 on craigslist) is this decent until I can save for the KRK?

    is this the 8″ model?

Honestly Any sub will add that low end you are looking for until you can get a better one, and for 75 bucks you really cant go wrong.

    To all fellow speaker-seekers:

    I strongly recommend german-based speaker-company Teufel, (http://www.teufel.de/?lang=en)
they may have their focus more in the audiophile sector but you won’t find more bang per buck easily.
I own a surround set bought 2008, and it still blows the roof off (though I never used the sub to full capacity o.o), and as well do a lot of friends of mine own Teufels, so I can assure you that the build quality is really good.

And… they have sale tous le jours, because they’re manufacturer and seller bundled, so there’s always the chance to catch something nice’n’bashing.

    Cheers!
