Participantmy name is common but its an interesting story. i started when i was 9.back in 1981 and in hip-hop at the time everybody was using their names in their tags. my name is robert but i didnt want to use “dj robby rob” i thought it was kind of corny,so for the first 2 months i was djing i didnt have a name. one day i was cleaning my room when my uncle came in an we stared talking and as i was asking him about what name i should have i said i wanted a cool name and at the same time i picked up a x-men comic off the floor and it had iceman on the cover. i looked at my uncle and he said “whos cooler than iceman?” and i decided to take that name, thus dj iceman was born. i actually have been “re-christened” the name “iceman” over the years, once for my ability to “snow-job” people into getting what i want, and once again cause for some reason no matter what the situation i never seemed to get rattled,i stay “cool under pressure” and in my biref career as an mc i actually turned it into an acronym I.c.e.m.a.n. Infinite,Creative,Energy,Manifests,Allthroughout,Nature. being that energy cannot be created or destroyed, its infinite, and i seem to get energy from everywhere so i just seemed fitting. so thats my story hope you liked it lol as far as choosing a different one nah i like it
December 7, 2011 at 5:08 pm #11025VinnyBlanc
ParticipantName is Vince.
I had a lot of Spanish friends growing up (still do) who called me “Vinny Blanc” in reference to “white” Vince. I like the way it sounds and imagine my friend Edmar’s enjoyment when I told him about a month ago that I was going with this alias!
It’s pronouned “Bl-on-k” not “Blank” btw…

MemberMy last name means Hell Fire in German. So instead of my last name with DJ in front, I picked DJ HellFire.
December 7, 2011 at 8:00 pm #1002340Dj EarGazm
MemberI was in the sameboat for a while. I went nameless because I didnt know what to use. Didn’t want to use my real name because its kind of lame, (Jon Le) so I played around for a while and a friend kept saying to me they had eargazms when I mixed so the name kind of stuck. now I dj as Dj Eargazm

December 7, 2011 at 10:04 pm #11037Cool Cats
MemberWent to a ton of raves in high school and college and always went hard on the floor, but also wore a ton of Brooks Brothers and southern stuff, and dudes would always look at me like I was crazy. Basically, it was a ton of dudes in street wear and one dude in a pastel polo shirt and fishing shorts raging hard to electro.
Anyway, fast forward to a show in college, and this dude keeps looking at me like I’m out of my mind all night even though I was going hard as a mfer to the jams. (or maybe because of that.) Once the show was done, everybody went outside and he came up and said “Nigga, who the f- are you?” After about twenty minutes, he then said “Man, you one cool cat.” We laughed and that’s where I got Cool Cats.
Wasn’t until my junior year that I realized the Ed Banger crew goes by Cool Cats too, which kind of shut down the internet, but most folks don’t follow French House, so it’s never been a problem.
December 7, 2011 at 11:13 pm #1002342softcore
MemberI started music production with software and only software (when it wasnt actually the mainstream thing to do) so i figured my name could reflect that so I used “Softcore”…..Also thought it was a cunning idea to use a word which is usually used to specify the soft categories of….ahem…ermmmm…..porn. I was wrong on that part judging by the fact that :
1. daily traffic on my website shows me that too many people on this planet like softcore porn and not electronic music (lol)
2.some social websites (Facebook anyone?) have words forbidden to be used as names for pages.Oh well, too late for that now…..I think I have posted on this forum again this joke..but here goes…I always laugh thinking I should name one of my future releases “Softcore – Audio Porn EP” lol
December 8, 2011 at 1:35 am #11051Rattfink
MemberGood thread!
I chose my DJ name as DJ Rattfink because I was heavily influenced by the character that Ed Roth created back in the 50’s. I was especially moved by his description of what the character was all about in that Rattfink was like “the anti-mickey mouse”. I was just moving out of rock and punk and I thought that was a great explanation of what I wanted to do with my music because I wanted to make mixes and productions that were different from all the cookie cutter stuff that was out there.
Recently I’ve moved back to just using my name as my DJ brand instead of ol’ Rattfink but the reason why I chose that name still holds true 😀December 8, 2011 at 5:02 am #11060Chuck Coleman
ParticipantStill don’t have one. I started recording my mixes under Odd, and figure that will be my producer handle if/when I start producing my own tracks. I went by DJ Cole for a short period of time as Cole is a derivative of my last name. But googled it one day and… you know the story. Anyway, still trying to figure it out.

December 8, 2011 at 5:25 pm #11087JetRizza
Memberway back in 2001. I was in 5th grade in class drawing(i haven’t drawn in ages) and I came up making this character. he had spikey hair with a piece strayed in front and a big sword(i had basically copied the buster sword from final fantasy 7) but i had to think of a name and Jet Riza popped into my head it stuck. and I put that on everything from my gamertag on xbox360 to my music making name but I like being called jet riza like with a “E” or a long “z” like the rza from the wutang clan

December 9, 2011 at 11:23 am #11137Baybs
MemberHello, I would like to share with you my story about my dj name and asks you what you think of the name.
Since i was a little kid the people call me Baby(on portuguese is bebé) because i´m the younger of the family. When i became dj I thought my name would have to have intercourse with my nickname, but I always thought that dj baby was to much feminine and did not sounds good to me. My friends just started calling me Dj Baby until one day a colleague called me dj babs (in English I think you write like this, because they do not pronounce the “y”), but in Portugal the pronunciation is different and because of that I decided to write so that we can pronucia it as Dj Babs, this case will be dj Baybs. 10 years have passed since I started on dj but in the meantime stopped because of personal problems. Now I want to return to the game but I think if this name is correct? if I should keep it or if I should change it? possibly ask i myself because I tired a little of it, but at the same time I think that this name has already been shot in some venues and has already done some work. So I like to know what you think of my Dj name, how it sounds to you. Let me now, I appreciate your opinion. I´m a RnB/hip hop & Dance hall dj, but like o pass some funky/soul hits and recently started on electronic music(dubstep, house).Peace
BaybsDecember 9, 2011 at 8:39 pm #11161Alix Elder
MemberI like the name, if you feel it still has a connection to you now, then continue to use it.
I chose DJ Whocca for two reasons. One, the Who from the name, is from one of my more Nerdy pursuits, Doctor Who. The end, is based off of my childhood nickname Pucca, as in from the classic film Harvey starring Jimmy Stewart. I put the two together and you’ve got Whocca. Would I change it? No, I like it because it came from my roots and my passions.
