ParticipantIt all depends on the enviroment you are going to be DJ’ing in. If you are strickly a bedroom/house party DJ then the Ergo would be okay. The most common found complaints fo the ERGO are: Plastic knobs and faders, and the blinking lights on the Jogwheels.
The T1 is a 4 channel mixer oppose to the ERGO which is a 2 channel mixer.
With a proper mapping the ERGO will do as much as the T1 but it will involve using shift buttons and modifers.
It all comes down to what exactly you are wanting.
My biggest gripe about the pioneer controllers are the tempo faders. I dont like how the left side tempo fader is so close to the volume faders.December 6, 2011 at 7:18 pm #10971VinnyBlanc
ParticipantHave any ideas on where you intend on playing? You may want to consider this / check out their setup as the DDJ-T1 isn’t exactly the smallest piece of kit to try and squeeze in a DJ Booth…

KeymasterThe software is also not Traktor Pro 2 with the DDJ-T1, it is a cut down version.

MemberI’m intended to use my controller certainly at home as well. I want to be able to make very good mixes and podcasts, being kind of artistic in mixing I want a good device which provides me with good features. In my DJ crew, we’ve been using a reloop digital jockey 2 and we’ve played with it in all kinds of venues (from house parties to clubs) for student parties. But at the moment, I’m making fast progress, and I want my own gear. I still don’t know where I’m going to be in a year, if I’ll be sticking in the crew playing for the same student parties or if I manage to DJ independantly at bigger venues. That makes the decission difficult. I want a device which is professional/good enough to play in clubs, in case I will get there. Most venues I’ve already played in have booths who are large enough for most controllers.
I like the pioneer controllers because of their CDJ like design. The pioneer commercials give me the impression that the DDJ T1 is a good option for club and professional DJs. However, if the truth is that the DDJ T1 isn’t much better, complex and/or professional than the DDJ ERGO at all, then I will certainly go for the ERGO. (Or would you even advice me the DDJ S1?)December 7, 2011 at 12:52 pm #11001Phil Morse
KeymasterS1/T1 is a Serato/Traktor decision. Ergo is not good for DJ booths as frankly you’ll look out of place, and once you factor in pro softwae it’s approaching the prices of the other two anyway.

ParticipantWell if you are playing in a booth with your DJ crew make sure you have a ton of room. the T1/S1 both are freaking HUGE!
I think Pioneer slipped on their design a bit. The controller does have a CDJ feel but really look at the size of the dang thing…its is the same size as 2 cdjs and a mixer but as 1 piece. Now with 2 CDJs and a mixer costs more money but you have the option of putting your CDJs on a rack if you have a small booth and have to play with others. With the T1 you dont really have that option because it is so dang big.As well the T1 is a 4 channel mixer, which is becoming more and more industry standard. Even if you do not use the 4 channels as all tracks you have the ability to use the other 2 channels as Sample decks.
If you MUST have that CDJ feel then you are pretty much stuck with the T1. BUT for the same amount of money you can get an S4 that has full integration and has a smaller footprint compared to the T1

MemberChoosing a controller which fits you perfectly seems harder than I thought lately.

ParticipantWhy not the traktor S2? it comes with traktor pro, very portable but also very professional and it can fit in dj booths easily.

MemberIf I’m going for a traktor controller, then I’ll go all the way and choose for the S4 and not the S2.
I acknowledge that I might be irrational in my choice of controllers because I know that the S4 is the best and the most flawless controller on the market. For months the traktor S4 was the only controller that I wanted. But since I did some research lately and since I saw other controllers being nicely presented and looking very good, I get tempted.

ParticipantIf you are looking at S4/S2 you should really also take a close look at Denon MC3000 / MC6000
as they IMO has higher quality in build and buttons/knobs.Pioneer makes good CDJ/mixers but unfortionatly IMO they shold have sticked to that as their
controllers does not match the prisetag at all and it is not top quality as Denon MC6000 MC3000 and Numark NS6Numark NS6 runs on Itch that is why I do not recommend it to you as you want Traktor.
NS6 can be run on Traktor but the layout is not so good for that and then you pay for Itch and does not use it
IMO a waist of money.Therfore My tip is take a look at S2/S4 and Denon MC3000/MC6000
My choice was the MC6000 but then MC3000 was not on the market…..
Some people said it was cramped and I did think it was when I looked at it
But after using it for about 10min I changed my mind and found that it was not an issue
because of the very good layout of the unit!December 8, 2011 at 5:29 pm #11088Hee Won Jung
ParticipantIMO the S4 > MC6k
But the MC3k > the S2
This is coming from a Traktor point of view. The S4 has hands down the best integration with Traktor. Has the ability to expand with Turntables or CDJ’s using timecode and the layout is a lot more spacious. Some people find the Mc6k cramped but others have gotten used to it. If you are new to controllers the more room you have the less chance of hitting the wrong thing or bumping a fader/knob while you are trying to hit a button. The main gripe people have with the S4 is that there is no Booth out. This can easily be fixed with a independant volume controller for around 35 bucks plugged into the RCA out. As well the S4 already comes with Traktor Pro 2. the Mc6k does not. The one thing i love about the Mc6k is that it is also a dedicated stand alone mixer. If your laptop dies on you you can have CDJs plugged directly into the MC6k and you are still able to do you set off CDJs/Turntables.
S2 Vs MC3k
The S2 does have booth out but does not have any additional Input in. Meaning if your laptop crashes…you are pretty much screwed. Now this can be a deal breaker if you soley rely on the S2. The S2 is a completely stripped down version of the S4 so all of the nice features you get on the S4 are lacking here.
Now the MC3k on the other hand is also a 2 channel mixer BUT it does have inputs so you can connect CDJS to it. The Mc3k is a hybrid standalone mixer as well so once again if your lappy dies you are still able to get music out until your laptop reboots. There is a lot more space on the MC3K so its not as cramped feeling. I personally like the layout of the Mc3k over the S2.

Participantoh i just wanted to add.
the MC6K and MC3K are both built like tanks…seriously i think you could bash someones head in with it and not even dent the dang controller…Thats my other gripe about the S4 I would have gladly paid an extra 100-150 bucks for a solid metal construction

MemberI researched quite a bit and I came to the conclusion that I’m not going for the DDJ T1 anyway.
I already have traktor 2, so the choice will be: a DDJ ERGO which I will use with traktor 2, or pay 350 euros more and buy the Traktor S4 anyway.I won’t go for the Mc 6000. While I acknowledge that it is a more than decent controller, I find that the knobs are too packed, and I prefer larger jog wheels. I have experiences with reloop controllers and more than once I had accidentaly pressed the in-button when turning the low-knob, which made the song cueing from the beginning, and I rather invest in traktor s4 then because the price is close.

ParticipantSince you already have TP2 go with the MC3000
DO NOT buy the ERGO, the knobs and faders are made of plastic, jogs arnt very good.
There is a huge difference between the ERGO and the S4….the ERGO and S2 and MC3000 are all in the same catagory…then S4 is in the same class as the3 DDJT1 MC6000
