IMO if you are a house DJ you should stick to that and not take on this party.

There are party DJs who should do this IMO

You need to play music from the 60s 70s 80s 90s 00s and some new.
If you do not know it well….. It takes time to handle mixing those tracks…..

Try mixing Abba – dancing quen with Bee Gees stayin alive (origan tracks not modified)
Then you know what I mean. If you can beatmatch the two tracks by ear then you are good to go IMO.

Oh man! That’s one hell of a crowd. Maybe play old people music until the old people pass out/get drunk and don’t care then switch to bangers? That’s a toughie though best of luck!:)

if your going to be playing a wide age group and its more of a mobile type gig, be ready for some requests.

as far as house goes, play something with a bit of oldschool flavour and funk in it. i find that everyone is a sucker for that kind of stuff regardless of age just cause its so damn danceable :p

i think stuff like “i want your soul” by armand van helden and “you take me higher” by rogerseventytwo are guarenteed to get everyone jamming 😀

I would think u just cater to the people who are dancing or taking up the dance floor. which in your case we hope are the young’ns lol

But if its the older crowd (and chances are it will be cuz of the booz haha) well then just play their music. u could probably get away with just straight cutting or the easiest mixes available. thats what the dj at the last wedding I went to did and I didn’t see anything wrong with it.

Stepping down n passing up a potentialy good gig jus cuz it might be a bit tough does not seem like an option for me. if anything it will be a learning experience and a paycheck.

jus make sure ur prepared for anything IMO

I would definitely recommend sticking to house/pop mixes too, even the younger crowd won’t want underground house at this kind of party.

My advice, if it’s from 18-45 play 70’s and 80’s music, classic rock and new wave. Throw some modern in for the kids, but the adults will love hearing music from their generation, and even today’s young adults will dance to the beginnings of electronic music. 45 is how old my mom is, and she was a teen in the 80’s. Throw in some 90’s stuff too.
