KeymasterI’d say choose your software over your hardware. Look at the Reloop Jockey 3 and the Denon MC6000 too.

ParticipantI agree…start with a software, but I would wait til January and see what’s coming out.

… what?
It’s got tighter mappings and higher-resolution than almost anything else, especially with Traktor. Is it the plastic?

ParticipantI really didn’t mean it to come off like that. To be honest the whole point of this thread is my internal struggle between the NS6 and the S4, and I think I am really just nit-picking at this point.
What it also comes down to is @ the price point of both of these controllers I probably won’t be investing in anymore hardware for a while so I like the flexibility/resolution of the jogs better for scratching on the NS6.
Being a relatively new DJ, either of these controllers features are way beyond what I am even capable of right now so it doesnt matter.

MemberPick by usable features first. It’s nice having a shiny, solid, high-quality controller but if it’s only got two buttons it’s not much good. Ok, so that’s a bit exaggerated. I’ve got no idea what the NS6 is like, but I’d imagine it’s pretty similar to the S4 anyway, just with a different layout (and those larger jogs you’re after). I’m no turntablist but I’ve found the S4 to be usable for scratching (not that I have much to compare to).

MemberNs6 has tighter jogs, is larger, has booth-out, is an analog mixer (best thing ever), warm and punchy sound and even though you can map it to Traktor, is pretty much exclusively designed for ITCH. It also lacks essential Traktor-focused controls, and is thus inferior when you’re using it for that purpose. However ITCH is better with the warpable grids, tuned into the NS6 like none other and you get the Serato customer service, which is the best service I have ever seen from a DJ company. Not to mention Whitelabel, which is just badass.
S4 is a little smaller, exclusively designed for Traktor, has a sampler section, a huge community centered on mapping and experience with it over at DJTT, and fits Traktor like a glove. Also the jogs on the S4 aren’t that much smaller and the scratching is pretty accurate. Porter Robinson drops it hard with the S4, however it does lack XLR, booth, hard to see in clubs because of the lighting and it’s plastic-y.
With that said, both are fun to play with and like they said above, it all depends your software choice. I like Traktor for what it does, I just hate wasting hours screwing the map up only to revert back to the factory settings. With Serato, you just plug and go.

ParticipantIMO the best controller out there as for now would be 2 Denon S3700 + X1700 mixer!
They have the absoulte best joggs that money can buy and selfgenerating timecode + a lot more….
The second best would be Pioneer CDJ2000/DJM2000 IMOIf you are looking for NS6 the size of that package wold not be much bigger
The prize would on the other hand! The NS6 is a really good controller but it has 2 gripes as I see it
1 SW as it is an Itch controller the layout is not good for Ttaktor!
2 It is too big in size.Other than NS6 if you want the best is NS4 and Denon MC6000
Here is a comparsion scart between the two that says:
Jog pulse resolution S4 = 1,0 Denon MC6000 = 2,048 !http://www.denondjforums.com/forum/index.php?f=55&t=13519&rb_v=viewtopic
I have made my choice because there are soo many more features on the MC6000
the size and the fact that I do think S4 has lower build quality
and lower quality in hardware such as buttons knobs and chassiesIf you do not like itch and do not have the money for S3700
(or the S3900 that is not yet anounced but proberbly will be soon)
Then I sugest that you take a close look at Denon MC6000 and S4 to compare what you think is the best…… -
