Hola Venezuela, como esta? 🙂
Short and simple answer: YES! Private events like weddings (primarily) and special occasions and corporate events are pretty much the only place someone that is not a nr.1 brand-name producer (like Tiesto, Armin, David or any of those guys) can make good money on a regular basis. So good in fact that if you are any good, you can probably live off of your DJ-ing. With plenty of spare time to develop your producing. Now if you can get a gig in a club on a night that you don’t do weddings and other stuff on generally, that is obviously good to get out and play something different.
I am not saying don’t follow your dream, because you really should. Just saying don’t throw away an income that is already (partially) in the business you want to be in. There isn’t too much honor or romance in being a broke, struggling DJ until you get “discovered”. Read on here and on the blog about all the ways to get your own music out there. If it is good enough, then it will be picked up and you will start making a name for yourself. Get followers, lots of them. Then you can go and start promoting a night with you as the headliner. You will get gigs if you can guarantee door fees and/or lots of people that will come and drink.
So, keep on hacking away at your “daytime” wedding DJ job and have a parallel track towards your dream.
Just my humble opinion. Good luck & greetinx.
