The buttons on my S4 work very easily and on the click, so I guess the S2 should be the same (since it is the same buttons) from all that stuff you describe I cannot see how this is a good deal, unless you got it for free…

Usually you have to write to customer service telling them to release your license. Then you can give it to the person buying your controller who can re-register it. Not all companies support this policy though.

    Pays to check this out.

thanks… any advice on cleaning the buttons? I bought some electrical contact cleaner but am wondering whether the rubber cue/transport buttons can be easily removed, whether i can shoot it through the cracks or should just take the whole thing apart – assuming I can’t get warranty support because the controller is registered to the seller.

Quite frankly I am not sure shooting some contact spray in them is gonna fix your problem. Not saying it won’t, just expressing doubt. My concern is fed by the fact that these buttons are so enclosed these days, that there really isn’t too much chance of them getting so dirty they won’t function anymore (and certainly not a whole bunch of them). Faders are really the only exception as they have, due to the nature of the beast, a semi-open connection with the outside world.

By the sound of it, the unit belonged to someone who didn’t push buttons, but rather hammered them. And if you hammer a switch or button long enough, it’s innards can become weakened and even break. Often there are spring like mechanisms that make sure the button returns to it’s neutral setting after being pressed. And the actual bits that make the connection inside the button/switch have a shelf life too. That shelf life is severely shortened by overzealeous use, i.e. hammering.

It looks real good standing behind a controller dropping your finger from chin height or even above your head onto the buttons, but it doesn’t exactly qualify as good use policy.

Having said that, to get to the inside of the buttons you often have to take off the top plate or the bottom plate. Attempting to remove the rubber/plastic caps is often destructive if you don’t know the exact way they are attached. Shooting through the cracks is, imho, useless. The caps will be bigger than the actual switch, chances are big you’ll miss the switch completely and just randomly spreak contact spray around inside your unit (and the stuff smells!).

I have an extra Traktor Pro license that I may be willing to sell. I purchased Traktor Pro as standalone software first. I later bought a Kontrol S4 which included a license also. If interested, I will sell the other one. just hit me up.

I apologize if this post is outside the posting rules of Digital DJ Tips.

Thanks to both of you. I think this will work alright for me in the short term… I’ll take it into a local audio shop for a quote and a more professional look in the mean time, but for the 200 US i paid for it… it will do its job better than a mixtrack pro II would have. a bit disappointing but I’m still happy.

Syd, thanks for the offer but NI got back to me on the license I had already received as a gift. best of luck!
