Serato, even Intro is nice. Its plug&play. You dont have to deal with audio routing, mapping and other things (but you can if you upgrade to Serato DJ). And Serato DJ is powerful like Traktor – the full version allow you to do almost the same stuff – more than a usual techno DJ usually use.

And having the option to use stuff like remix decks, up to 8 hotcues and other stuff that is not avaliable for vinyl DJs – its great, if you dont need it – turn it off. You can run Traktor in basic mode with 2 decks, no hotcues, disable anything that you dont need (you can turn off almost anything) and use it.

I dont know how the jogwheels are on the newer pioneer gear, but they should be fine.

Find a shop with all this stuff and test it. This will be the best.

And Traktor is always an option. It works with any controller on the market, if needed.

Why the hell would Serato be a step below Traktor?

    Serato:

    – Better Jogwheel integration (100% better for scratching)

    – iZotope studio quality effects

    – Better song preparation modes

    – Better iTunes integration

    – Flexible Beatgrid

    – Parallel Waveforms

    – More simple setup

    – Flexible Effect assign with beat tempo

    – Effects stacking

    – SP-6 Sample player

    – Option to do video mixing as well

    —————————–

The only thing Traktor has going for it are remix decks and deck layout neither software is superior no matter what some internet forums tell you and yes Pioneer gear (most of it) is still awesome.

Traktor can be as easy or complicated as you choose it to be, but takes a little to get used to and setup to your preference. The S2 is a tested and well liked controller and is 100% plug n play with Traktor. Also with Traktor if you want to get a new controller later on almost any controller will work.

Serato has really good integration with it’s supported controllers but the futures you can use depend on the controller you have.  I your controller does not have a future you can’t mapp it to your controller, you need an extra controller. the SP-6 Sampler is a nightmare to use and is not integrate fully to any of the supported controllers so a lot of mouse clicking needs to be done.

The Pioneer DDJ SB is what it is an entry controller and even though it looks like it has 8 pads on each side the button row is only for transport controls. so there are only 4 pads (Hotcue/samples) per deck.

I recommend taking a look Mixvibes Cross get a controller that is supported then buy the software. Cross  is close to getting upgrade to version 3 and bass a lot of nice changes. Colored waveforms ( 3 different styles) build in Video EQ pre set from The Pioneer DJM 2000 Mixer.<span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”> Cross is also the only software that has full HID for all of the Pioneer CDJ has a really good browser (Smarlists) only week point of Cross for the moment are it’s FX. </span>

    +1 for Cross (DJ)

Most controller support of any software. And cheap. And now coming in Linux version soon. And iPod and iPad remote apps.

Not saying it’s the best or the best for you. But I do believe you’d be amiss not including it in your research and testing.

    Greetinx.
