ParticipantWhat’s your budget? And which controller will you connect to it?

ParticipantI’m Balling on a budget right now but I don’t want anything cheap neither so something mid range P.A. System. I have monitor speakers I use for when I practice but I’m looking for something I can use at home and to take with me to house party’s or a large room. I’m using a Pioneer DDJ-SR. I’m still looking around and I like the stackable sub on bottom and speaker on top look but there is so many brands and since I’m saving up money for a good speaker system I just want to get some good speakers that are going to last me and not blow up or go out on me. I want to be able to set up anywhere and jam out. Thank you once again for all of your input!

KeymasterI would look into the Mackie HD 1221 as the basic speaker and the HD 1501 as the Subwoofer.
Alternatively EV PRX Series.

ParticipantI would love to have some Mackie’s like that but I can’t afford a set of those right now.

ParticipantA good entry level PA system is the LD Systems Dave G3 series – you have three options: Dave 10 (about 50o EUR), Dave 12 (700 EUR) and Dave 15 (950 EUR).
But be aware that this system has the amplifier for all speakers located in the subwoofer. So unlike other active speaker systems you cannot run the top speakers without subwoofer. The advantage is you have a nice set at a very good price.
Alternatively, you could try to get used set of popular tops like Mackie SRM 450 or JBL EON speakers and save up for adding a subwoofer later. This speakers are often sold in good condition just because people upgrade. Check out local second-hand-websites or ebay. You can expect to save 40-45% compared to buying new.

ModeratorMy opinion: Get two used SRM350 Mackies. Great sound, compact and portable. And just rent when you need something bigger. The SRMs will do great as back-/sidefills or monitors in that case. And tey are not too big for use in your practice room.

Participantwondering if the OP has made a purchase, and I offer up this tidbit, as I am soon to be purchasing a set of speakers, and am on a budget. I have been researching PA speakers a lot and have made 2 recent trips to Guitar Center to listen to PA speakers. I decided on a pair of 12″ as they sound better than 15″ to me. I am settled on the EV ZLX 12″ tops, and will be adding a small sub to start with. I decided on the EV because they sounded great, even loud, and because they are a reputable, recommended brand name, and also because they have the “classy” look I am after for weddings and such. I also liked the Behringer B212D over the Mackie Thumps, and would still consider them if budget was super important. Thankfully my wife is behind me on this and I am able to consider some more mid-range speakers. The more high end Mackies, as well as the JBL and QSC speakers, all sounded great to me. I chose the EV ZLX, the more expensive EV, JBL, QCS, and Mackie speakers just didn’t sound that much better or louder to warrant the price. I think I would rather have 4 tops than 2 QSCs…LOL If you can swing it, make a trip to a store that will let you listen to some speakers, that was a big help in my choice, I had almost settled on ordering the Thumps because of internet recommendations, and I’m sure they’re great if you don’t mind the muddy sound….LOL just my $.02, I’m a noob, and by no means a trained ear …. Let us know how you’re doing, if you’ve made a choice, and let us know if you think the EV’s would fit into your budget. You could always be careful not to blow them for a few gigs and then add the sub later…. I’m looking at the ZXA1 sub to start, just thought I’d add that………………. Moonshadow
