I do not want to be online while playing. Period!

Not even to do a quick song download (if ever necessary I’ll download it from my iPhone and play it through and aux channel).

And especially not wireless, which is what you would most likely end up with.

So, no, imho I don’t see this happening for any serious DJ environment.

LOL, and I have two laptops, just in case something goes wrong with one, I can move on with the other.

Same here. DJing is all about working hardware and stability.

Anything can crash or break during a set, this is why the old technics became popular – it was just working. Any time.

There are already some nice wireless toys like the Numark Orbit, but i would never use the main audio source over internet or a wireless device. Numark Orbit is only a controller, no audio interface – even if it lose connection or shut down, you will still have music playing and a working software (mouse/touchpad & keyboard shortcuts are working, maybe a second controller).

Try to avoid additional stuff that can break, keep it easy.

I know many DJs who are still using Traktor Pro 1.2.x just because its working with their hardware and its stable.

And have a backup any time – last gig my traktor software got a problem (freeze, but the track was running) – so i got enough time to switch my controller to analog input and use it, while restarting the software). That saved my butt – nobody noticed a break, just me going crazy in the booth.

streaming music over the internet (probable WIFI) is not a big problem, if the output is compressed, like internet ration. but to DJ from a virtual mashine you would need stream 2 sometime 3 songs at the same time not compressed. and there will sure be some kind of latency from when you press a hot cue until it gets played. I don’t see this coming anytime soon but I’m not ruling it out. I never play(stream or download a song) at gigs. If I don’t have it I don’t have it I take a note and listen when I get back home.
