MIXTRACK PRO, DEFINITELY. I was in your situation just a year ago. I had a slightly higher budget and went for the Numark N4. Numark is a quality company. Their build quality is great even with the Mixtrack Pro, very hard to break. Also, the key lock button, I feel, is important from intermediate all the way to professional level DJing. If you really want to start learning how to mix on actual equipment, the key lock is necessary. Definitely definitely definitely Numark Mixtrack Pro

In general, updated versions are usually not huge upgrades. You see that with iPhones, computers, basically all technology. I say go for the Mixtrack Pro 2, it is always good to be as up to date with your equipment as you can, even if the physical differences are minor

I know it’s a month later, but thought I’d chime in… For one, I’m wondering what the OP chose to do/get, and how it’s working out.      I am a user of the Mixtrack Pro 2, and I love it, as a learning tool….  I would not however suggest that anyone looking to go beyond their own home for practice, or doing house parties, looks at getting the MTP2….   I have done a couple gigs with it that worked out great.   On Dec. 28th I had a gig at a local bar, and with the sound system cranked up loud for the last half of the party, I could not hear the cue output of the MTP2 over the PA….   I know that better phones would help that, but these phones are more than loud enough on an analog mixer.   I also run my MTP2 through an analog mixer, as the main output is low and my amp then has to work quite a bit harder …. with the analog mixer I can up the gain and master volume to get what I want going into the amp…. next gig I will be running the Cue out of the MTP2 through the mixer to “amplify” the cue …. kind of weird to see it set up that way, but in initial testing, it’s workable and would let me actually hear what I’m trying to get ready and beat matched.  Just my $.02, as a noob …. take it for what it is, something you read online…..LOL   Just wondering when I see it being recommended, why folks are recommending the MTP2 to people who mention gigs and such?   I’ll be following to see what follows, hope for an update from the OP…

As for the cans (headphones) thing:

Any analog DJ mixer and especially good one (like Allen&Heath) will be so loud in my Sennheiser HD-25s at everything above 50% that it will blow my brains out.

Any controller (even powered ones) will have lower output on the cues than that, but good cans will still work. Even a Twitch (one of the least powerful) is still loud enough in a club environment with a pair of good headphones and can still go so loud it will, well not blow my brains out but prolly make my ears bleed.

Mixtrack for sure, Numakr controllers are great and have wonderful integration with VDJ.
