ModeratorDon’t worry, x-faders break. Event though two months is a very short period of time. Especially for scratching DJs a feature that a controller or mixer should have is “user-replaceable x-faders”, they break or wear relatively often.
I doubt they will do much soldering, if the controller is built to any kind of standard, it will have some sort of connector to attach to the mainboard and probably a few bolts to hold it in place to the board and possible the front plate of the controller.
Don’t believe this is a problem unique to Reloop and I definitely know it’s not something that doesn’t happen to Pioneer stuff.
It is, however, always good to take a close and honest look at the way you are using the x-fader. Just to take the human component out of the equation. I am not saying you have anything to do with the fader breaking, could just be a factory fault, who knows, but just that it’s worth at least looking at your use. If you confirm that it has nothing to do with that, then you know you don’t have to change anything. If you decide that there are things you can do differently (I know some people have a “slamming” style where they slam the fader onto the stop, others use thumb/indexfinger techniques where the actually “break” the movement just before it hits the stop) to minimise the risk of something going wrong.
Finally, it’s worth finding out if the replacement is something you can do yourself.

ParticipantYep. Even on Hardware that is not really designed to have a replaceable crossfader, you can do it on your own.
I remember some nice videos with NI S4 and Innofader – specially for scratch DJs.

KeymasterI really wish people would not generalise if they have one bad experience.
I have my Terminal Mix 4 for 2 years now, I use the crossfader a lot in scratching (in gigs, practice and classes) and it still works like day 1.
So yes any company can have a lemon once in a while, but that is what warranty is for and reparing is nothing bad. Actually nobody will solder in your TM4 as the crossfader is an easy plug replacement.
Now thinking that someone like it cannot happen with another company is bogus… My local club had 2 faders (not crossfaders) break on their Pioneer Nexus, sure Pioneer Pro support took fast care of it, but it can happen anywhere and to any company.
And for the record: Even Innofaders can be faulty, but they have a really good warranty program.

ParticipantEven though I scratch a little, I am very easy on my CF knowing that back in the day it was always the weak link/first thing to fail in the set up. And as I said, after only 60 hours use is not very impressive.
But like you say Terry, maybe just a Lemon?!? And I feel better knowing it is just a straight swap with no soldering involved.
Shame I could not use it at all the Christmas period when I was off work, had lots of ideas and stuff I wanted to try…..whilst my controller was sitting in a warehouse 🙁 Good job i’m not a real DJ with paying gigs!
Happy New Year chaps

KeymasterI know it is always frustrating when things fail on you….
Hell I bought a brand new car a year ago (which I love) an Orange KIA Sportage. I love this car to death.
2 days after I bought it, the engine warning light came on and I had to return to the dealer. Turned out an engine sensor had been gnarled of by a marten or other wild animal. So totally not the cars fault, but I had to wait a day to have it repaired (as I wanted a new part for my new car not the old soldered together…).
Yes it was very frustrating, but I still love that car and happy for me after more than 30.000km it did not have any problems after that incident with our Austrian wild life….
I am sure your new crossfader will work out just fine 😉

ParticipantI am a graphic artist by day Terry, and do a lot of work for Kia.
They are very good cars these days, but maybe they should offer a “anti marten gnarl” option for the Sportage hahaha
Yes i hope it does, I am waiting for the call as we speak

ParticipantJust called them, and nobody has even looked at it yet. To say I am not very happy is an understatement of epic proportions 🙁
In fact, my intro to Digital is not going very smoothly at all!

ModeratorGuess you gotta give ‘m some leeway because of the holidays. Not much gets done anywhere. I noticed that in my daytime job.
Hey, some companies have great support. Only thing is you pay a small fortune each year to get it, even if nothing breaks down.

ParticipantGot a text 20 mins after i phoned and complained saying: “your repaired item is now ready for collection”
And now the fader is stiffer over to the right than it is the left!!! I’ll see if it beds in but i think it may be going back again soon.

ModeratorSorry to hear that m8.
Good luck with it!

ParticipantJust phoned them back to let them know about the stiffness.
Reloop now want it back with THEM to Re-replace the fader. I think I would like a new unit!
🙁

ModeratorI hear that. Two repairs on top of each other. Not good news from Reloop. Let us know how it ends.

KeymasterHmm that sounds weird. So your local dealer did the repair wrong? That is bad.
However I remember some of my crossfaders being a bit stiff on one side sometimes (even the Innofader on the DJ mixer) and after 2-3 scratching sessions it would be worked in…

ParticipantWell, Reloop have now repaired my TM2 crossfader at there UK facility. Not plugged it in yet to test properly but the fader feels the same all the way across left to right so that’s a good start.
Will give it a proper Hip Hop test tonight and hopefully have nothing more to report on the matter.
Feels good to have it back home though 🙂

ParticipantOK, so I had a bit of Scratch Therapy lastnight on my freshly repaired crossfader, and guess what happened? After about half an hour the crossfader went strange again, for no apparent reason deck B came in with the fader all the way to the left again. But then rectified itself!?!?! I’m confused and a little P’d off now, could this be an issue with Serato or have I really got an absolute lemon from Reloop here 🙁
