Take the dip, go digital and get a real controller.

It’s more of a question of how can I maximize the gear in front of me while still have fun melding the old and the new. “Just get a real controller” kind of misses the point. PS- I can smell the condescension in your key strokes, neub.

LOL, calling Terry_42 a neub … or is it noob … could prove a slight error :-).

To give you a slightly longer answer:

    No!

(Sorry, couldn’t resist). Effectively you are getting only one stereo signal out of your laptop going into whatever speaker/PA system you are utilising. So, on your DMX06 (great little mixer, been my spare for years) there is just one channel being used. No crossfading or anything.

The solution for this would be to get a big soundcard with 4 stereo outputs, however, now your are stuck for channels on the DMX, because it’s strictly a two-channel mixer. well yes you can set the phono inputs to be line inputs and the line/phone flip switch to go back and forth, but not quite the setup you’d want.

So, in essence, going the controller route if you are indeed serious about this, is actually the smartest option. Another would be to get a 4-channel (midi preferably) mixer.

    Hope that helps & greetinx,

    Chuck

Yes the Z2 might work out, it is only 2 channels but native Traktor and can use timecode turntables.

Or the Pioneer SRT if you prefer Serato and its 4 channel.

Calling me a newb is OK Chuck I am younger than you and only have about 20+ years of experience DJing 😛

There is that Terry. No worries, when you are my age you will have my number of years experience!

And Tim, now that you got some more elaborate answers, anything there to help you along?

    Greetinx,

    Chuck

Awww, I’m so glad you guys made up. And thank you for all of your helpful reasoning. I do appreciate it. I guess I’ve just had so much damn fun with that mixer, I wanted to see if I could keep it in the loop. Those Kontrol units look delicious, and quite fun.

I guess at this point, 20+ years into it, I’m fascinated with pushing every boundary I can. I love the fact that I’ve freed up so much time in the actual mixing of tracks in the digital age, now I want to take the creation up a notch. Thank you both.
