What you called 32 beats, You prolly refer to bars, 1 bars equals to 4 beats, so in essence 32 beats = 8 bars, for me its a lot easier to count them in bars, instead of beats, because you dont have to count all the beats, so its like this, dug, dug, dug, dug…one (1 bar ),two, three, four, one (2 bars), …etc

This method is Counting Bars,  so if song A had like 8 bars outro, and the song B had like 12 bars intro, you “cut” the intro of song B to 8 bars so it matched the song A outro, so that way when song A about run of outro, the “energy” of the song B kicks in

I would recommended to get a practice a lot on House genre of EDM instead, it keeps the “complicated feature” of dubstep to a minimal

I recommend you purchase Phil’s “Learn to DJ fast” course on the site. He explains this concept very well.

Yep, 1-2-3-4, 2-2-3-4, 3-2-34 up to 8-2-3-4 will become your mantra! You will dream it, mumble it in your sleep. And if you have done it enough times, you will be able to just listen to a track and quickly be able to determine where the 1st 1-2-3-4 will start.

Dance music is pretty much built around the 32-beat or 8-bar phrase. Although I have no qualms about throwing something in on the 5th bar as long as no vocals are involved.

One of the advantages is that all DJ software has a waveform these days (as do many of the higher end CDJs). And you can often see where the “parts” to a song are by looking at the waveform. So it can be a nice visual aid.

Don’t overthink it though. Some of my more interesting mixes came from starting a mix at a point I might not have picked if I had listened and analyzed the song 10 times in advance.

    Good luck and greetinx,

    Chuck
