Ok, so the reason I’m asking is because as part of  project in design school, I’m designing a light/ flashlight for DJ’s.
Either for the booth – mixer/decks,
or for searching cd’s and records crates,
or even for just shining a light behind the decks to fix a cable or wire.
I’m doing research and it would be helpful to know what features are important to you fellow DJ’s when it comes to accessories. for some of you it maybe entirely irrelevant and for some a must have.
Any input would be very much appreciated!

Oh; it depends on if your CDJs/Controller has backlighting or not. If it doesn’t, or has poor lighting, then yes. Personally I would look for something similar to a book-light, just more powerful. Make sure to get those side buttons (Like mic-control and pitch sliders), as well as the stuff in the center. Usually cables shouldn’t be much of an issue unless one of them is notably loose/broken, but in that case one should be taking other precautions to not let it fall out.

I dont know, if you really need a light, your smartphone can act as a flashlight

Smartphones are no equal for a 600 lumen LED lenser flashlight with adjustable focus and different light modes to cut through smoke, laser waste and flashing effects if you lost something on the floor of the DJ booth…

This little and cost effective little tool has saved my live hundreds of times.

Same goes for a really good pocket knive and Gorilla Tools.

    I would say absolutely essential.

Gold, user-modified, mini-maglite in leather belt-holster. Don’t leave home without it. The new ones that come with LED from the factory are almost an inch longer, so I am glad I got my hands on an early conversion kit :D.

Gerber or Leatherman multi-tool is invaluable as well. I NEVER go to a gig without both of them.

Although backlit controllers and computer screens make the light bit slightly less important while actually playing (in the old days you’d need the light to read the very fine print on the back of a CD sleeve or box), but like Terry stated: try finding something that fell to the floor.

Be interesting to see what design you come up with. Make sure you share it with us!

I used to wear headlamps like how Orbital does.  Loved em and did it as a tribute to them…mainly because I loved their stage presence. I stopped using them though when they called it quits.

I think a small flashlight is ideal in your bag.  You never know when you need to see better to hook up a cable or what not.
